started on neocate 6 days ago - eczema on son's face tons worse???

Hi all. We started my 4mo on neocate 6 days ago due to suspected cow's milk allergy - I have been dairy free since diagnosis at 8 weeks but he still seems to be upset by other things in my milk so we made the switch.

We've been mixing in some BM as he refused to take it neat and we're down to about 20% BM now. Digestion is fine (well fine for him, those toxic poos came as a bit of a shock after the comparably pleasant BF poos!) and he's perfectly happy, more settled and sleeping for an hour longer overnight, but my only concern is his eczema.

His face is getting worse by the day, it's now covering the whole patch between his eyes, nose, chin and ears and he's even developed some on the side of his head which he's never had before. He's also come up with hives on his chest and forehead which have been clear since I went dairy free.

The peadeatrition has said it can't be a reaction to the neocate and she wouldn't expect his system to be reacting while it gets used to the new milk and it must be something else but my diet has stayed exactly the same as I'm still expressing a bit. The only other thing that's different is obviously the introduction of bottles and teats - can they cause a reaction? We're using Tommee Tippee and sterilising in a microwave steamer.

Sorry for the long post but not sure what's going on so any help appreciated.
x

Hi Miaow - I think we are finding the same. We went 100% Neocate on Friday night and we've just started to notice his skin clearing a tiny bit 48 hours later. I suppose I expected that with less breast milk there would be less reaction but I guess not until it's all out of his system.
Thanks.
