Suncream aaagggghhhh!

Ds1 seems to have an allergic reaction to suncream. He's always complained about having it on - but don't we all. But I noticed the other day that where we put sun cream he has a rash all over and patches of dry skin. So we showed a pharmacist and he recommended a different sun cream. The new one still hurts him and the rash is just as bad.

He won't let me put oilatum cream on his rash at night, saying that that hurts too.

So is this just stroppy 3 year old? Is there a better type of sun cream (or an alternative)? Is this a matter for the hv or GP?

PS to all you helpful allergy people who I've chatted to recently - this is the other ds, not the one with the food allergies. This one (ds1) has had no allergies or health problems at all, until now!

dd2 came up in rash yesterday at school probably from the suncream that I put on her in the morning - I used Ambre Solaire children's cream which is coloured. Her face came up in blotches and her arms were raw with eczema by the end of the day. I gave her piriton as soon as she got home, and the pharmacist advised me to not put any sun screen on until her skin has calmed down. I have sent her to school without any protection today. She has very sensitive skin and I am feeling a little sad. I have told the teaching assistant to try to keep her in the shade. I hope they do.

My DD develops skin rash when normal suncream is applied. I live in Ireland and I now use stuff made by La Roche-Posay available from chemists. It is especially for super sensitive skin and have had no trouble since using it since last year. Don't know if available in UK but I find it fantastic.

Try Dermatalogica.
My DD1 has a nasty reaction to any kids hypoallergenic sun cream on her face. It's literally the only one she can tolerate. It's frighteningly expensive though!

I've found Banana Boat's Tear-Free formula for Babies (pink bottle/SPF 50) fantastic for my three's sensitive skin. Someone recommended it as one of the few tested by Paedatrician so might be worth a try? Think Boots stock it.

I have also found Banana Boat baby suncream to be really good on my DDs skin - no flare ups yet.
