Some flavours are in some brands and not others. More expensive crisps tend to be free of milk powder as flavour carrier, I've learnt to check ingredients.

Some corn nachos are dairy free, I got Waitrose own brand this weekend and ate the whole -packet--

freefrommum · 08/07/2013 09:07

Pom Bear plain crisps are dairy free but always read the ingredients as they do change the recipe without warning (I believe they used to contain milk).

RunsWithScissors · 08/07/2013 09:10

Walkers plain are fine, as are their prawn cocktail. Beware mccoys! Their plain/salted ones had milk powder last time I checked.
Tortilla/corn chips should be fine if not cheese flavoured.
Agree, always check the label, crazy what thinks do contain milk.

My niece has t oeat dairy free. My sister found that some flavours of Pringles were dairy free (sorry, I can't remember which ones).

trixymalixy · 08/07/2013 09:35

Tescos do big bags of their own brand skips and salt and vinegar chipsticks that are dairy free and great for parties.

InMySpareTime · 08/07/2013 09:59

Most of the walkers multipack flavours are fine (not cheese&onion obviously, but the rest are)
Salted popcorn.
Aldi crisps are (except C&O) dairy free.
Salted nachos
Party rings
Pink panther wafer biscuits
Co-op jam doughnuts
Bourbon biscuits (most kinds)
Ginger nuts
Tesco value fairy cakes
Go along the crisp/cake/sweet aisle and just check everything, you turn up the odd surprise sometimes and it always makes meGrin to find a new Dairy Free treat for DS.

Tesaco do snackers which are a bit like cheddars (except not cheesy) which are DF.

S &V chipsticks are df

Advice given to us recently for dairy free products was to look t the value products. They often contain vegetable oil, rather than butter, but you do need to check everything. Also, we have also found that some products say ' may contain milk', but when you look at the ingredient list, nothing is listed. We've concluded that they are made in a factory where products are made with milk. As my son is milk intolerant, rather than allergic, that's not such an issue for us.

Hi, thanks for the comments and advice. Helped me to avoid spending hours in the crisp (and biscuit) aisle scouring every packet for ingredients and allergy advice!

I've gradually got to know what is likely to be dairy free but we don't often have crisps - or party food (obviously!).

Yes, the "may contain milk" thing really annoys me as it seems like a disclaimer in case they've got the ingredients wrong.

Oh trixy I didn't know that about those tesco crisps! I'm always looking for child friendly crisps as I cater whenever there is a party at dd's toddler group so that the food is allergen free. I wonder if they have a "cannot guarantee ingredients are but free" as so many tesco products seem to have that. I'm going to check them out.

For children's parties, asda's own brand pickled onion monster bites are milk free - you need to buy the big sharing bag as opposed to the multi pack as our flavours contain milk. Dd loves them as she thinks they are monster munch.

If you are looking for other party food aswell as crisps, Asda's value range frozen sausage rolls are milk free. They are extremely cheap but are tasty to have at parties and no one will know you have gone for the cheap option.
