Or intolerance etc. did you get this officially tested and how? Ds as a baby has lactose intolerance dx after discussion and trial and error with gp. Lots of fake milk etc. five years later I have out together the recent eczema, tummy aches and have come to the conclusion that it may have returned. After a longish period of checking tummy at gp, checking for Urine infections, skin conditions all coming to nothing it makes sense. ESP after this am when he told me not to drink milk as it caused awful pains in your tummy! Shame he didn't mention this earlier!

The other food allergies were diagnosed with skin prick and blood tests, but because it isn't an allergy the cow's milk protein intolerance was diagnosed by the specialist by trial and error and discussion before making the official diagnosis. Go to the GP and take it from there.

Thank you. I'm not sure what to expect : I don't want to exclude a whole food group again on the basis of my feelings but it does look odd. Eczema, tummy ache and toilet issues after milk to drink or on cereal etc.

For us it was fairly easy to diagnose though because her reaction to milk are very quick after any consumption which makes it pretty easy to pinpoint what it was, especially after being on an exclusion diet and then reintroducing milk. Hope you get some good advice from your GP.

Thanks - this seemed quite an immediate reaction! Grin

DD had a reducing sugars test on a stool sample at 3 months old. That diagnosed her lactose intolerance.

Nerfmother · 01/07/2013 21:10

Thank you. I really don't want to add to the assuming allergy , claiming intolerances thing without doing it properly. At least I know what to expect! Stool test, lovely.

Spent an afternoon trying to keep her laid on a carrier bag (stools were all watery so couldn't really collect from nappy) but she was rolling all over and having none of it. I eventually put a nappy on her whilst I went for a wee .... you can guess what she did, can't you?? Wink

I never got dd tested and the drs never asked yo rin any tests. I suspected through a range of symptoms it was a possibility, and then took the 100% improvement and turn around to be enough of a confirmation. Re introductions have appeared to be very difficult to determin whether it affects her. Her skin always goes very dry but toddlers are whiney anyway (although appeared to br more so) and without verbal confirmation it's hard to tell for sure. So we remain dairy free as she's happy that way and is going fine.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 02/07/2013 18:06

Must add I suspected intolerance not allergy.

Nerfmother · 02/07/2013 20:09

Thanks all, glad we are past the pooing on plastic stage! Gp has advised a month dairy free and then to go back. Eek. Lots of milk in lots if stuff!

Nerf - look for casein as well as the more obvious whey etc. If you think it's lactose intolerance you can use the lactofree cheese which is so much nicer than vegan cheese.

We had the test as she was ebf so although I went dairy free to help, we needed a test to diagnose.

Nerfmother · 03/07/2013 20:23

Thanks, gp said to do it properly, so will look up all possible permutations! I have bought a notebook and listed current symptoms and I'm stocking up so that I can start properly on Thursday. Hazelnut milk , soy yoghurt, cheap pretend meat ( no milk) and fruit.
