Has anyone, or their children, grown out of a strawberry allergy?

DS1 has had it since 8 months when he tried a strawberry yoghurt. Since then we've tried him annually on fresh strawberries, but at 8 years old, he still gets it. It's fairly mild, not anaphylaxia (sp?), but his baby ezcema flares up a little, so his legs get itchy.

Has anyone got any experience of this? I'm about to try him again at home. His poor face when everyone is eating beautiful gateau at school, but he's not allowed Sad

Yes, DS1 did, but he grew out of it earlier than your DS, so may not be much help. He got terrible rashes the first few times I tried to give him strawberries, so we stopped for a few years. Then he started again at about 4 years old and has loved them ever since. He still gets eczema but not strawb related.

Yes, my DH. He can now eat a few strawberries, but if he eats a lot his lips swell. As a child his whole mouth and throat would swell up.

Thank you both for writing. I'm going to do another monitored test this summer when the strawberries are in season. Fingers crossed it's gone! It's such a mild allergy that he gets so frustrated - just itchy dry legs.

Yes, DS got a nasty rash after a neighbour gave us a punnet of just picked strawberries when he was about 6, but he had scoffed a lot! Then he got the rash every time he had them so we stopped giving them to him for about 2 years. Now he's fine with the ones we grow and shop bought.

My ds grew out of his when he was seven. I think it's quite a common one to grow out of, which is handy. He only ever had a rash.
