Cat allergy, how bad might it get and what can I do?

I have been around cats all my life and owned my own for nearly 19 years. My children lived with the same cat all their lives. No problem. The day we brought two new cats home DD seemed to be reacting to both cats, she had had a potential reaction to one of them at a visit before hand. She seems much better now Smile. Me however seems to be reacting. I have had burning around my eyes and mouth and felt irritation on my chest and then today my throat felt weird but not seriously a problem. Rehoming the cats is not happening but I am still a little concerned and confused.

Dd is badly allergic to cats her face swells, her eyes close and her breathing is affected. We avoid them like the plague and we never go to anyone's house who have or who have had a cat.Dd takes antihistamines daily as well.

Sadly allergies to animals can lead to anaphylaxis in some cases. Whilst rare it is definitely possible so you really need to monitor both your own and your DD's reactions and decide what's best for your family.

Both me and my do are badly allergic to cats, dogs and all furry creatures. It's very sad for us both.

Our reaction - 'itchy' throat, itchy eyes, raised white and red welts if touched however briefly, followed by severe asthma.

Everyday, no matter what time of the year we take anti-histamine. Our allergy/asthma consultant says its fine to take everyday no matter what.

My cousins Dh, developed a severe allergic reaction to their family dog after 9 years. It can happen. They struggled for 12 months but it was so bad they had to rehome the dogHmm

That meant to read me and my 'ds'

Thank you everyone, all very helpful.

DH ordered an air filter purifier thingymajig and that is now plugged in. DD says she feels better. I have had a bit of a reaction but have been in the kitchen all morning (made vegetable satay soup and greek olive bread) so haven't touched the cats much.
