My dd is dairy intolerant, she doesnt have eczema but both her brothers do, everyone comments on how she has absolutely perfect skin.
Coincidence or something in it?

It could be, but to find out you would have to exclude it from her diet and your diet if breastfeeding for about a month. Some people say 2 weeks, but I found I made so many mistakes in those first two weeks (margarine, caseinates etc.) that I would have decided it wasn't dairy. When I did it properly making all my own food for 2 weeks the eczema did improve, and now I am much better at reading the labels each time.

However I wouldn't exclude such an important food group from a child's diet without consulting a doctor first. I only gave it up after a positive skin prick test.

My DD is severely allergic to diary, so hasn't been exposed to it for 5+ months, but still has eczema!

Fairydust, ds tested pos for a dairy allergy and we excluded it from his diet for 3 months, it didnt make the slightest bit of difference to his eczema. Some doctors think eczema can be food related but most docs that I have spoken to think diet has little to do with controlling eczema. Can your gp refer you to a paediatrican/allergist to find out more?

well we've cut dd down on her milk from 4-6 bottles a day to 1bottle but she's still having her normal yogurts - cheese - cheese sauces - and the eczema has more or less gone.

Spoke to the gp about the chance of a connection and he said she wouldn't just be allergic to one product and not others.

Anyway we've cut it down and it works so i'm happy and so is dd (well apart from the ear infecton we now have)

My dietician said that cooked and processed milk can be fine and raw milk can be the problem. Cooking the milk changes it - however all milk is heated to a high temperature as part of bottling it - so I'm not sure why that doesn't change it!

Anyone else know?

It took 3 months for my ds's eczema to get better after we stopped all dairy. That's why I am so careful about what I eat - I don't want another 3 months like we used to have.
