Grow out of allergy?

I'm a bit sad today, my 10 mth old ds has been allergic to cows milk protein since we started weaning at 5.5 mths. Well that's when we found out about it anyway!

The only symptoms he's ever had have been blotches on his face immediately after touching/consuming anything with milk in. He never suffered with reflux or anything and as always been fine with drinking breastmilk and me eating cows milk.

He never really had any other symptoms and other than a spot of eczema nothing transferred through my breastmilk. I've given up cows milk in cereal and tea but still have cheese etc and ds is fine.

Because of this I'd convinced myself his allergy had gone and smeared some milk on his cheek today to see if he had a reaction - hoping for nothing!

Sadly he came up in blotches that took about an hour to go. I know it's silly but I was really hoping he'd grown out of the allergy.

Oh well!

It's not been very long - give it time. My ds was about 15 months when he grew out of his dairy and soya allergies and about 2 when he could eat eggs again. He still has a kind of pimply face (not that noticeable to anyone who is this mother),which I think might be dairy, but otherwise he seems to be unaffected by any of the foods that used to cause reactions.

Why not try again in 2 or 3 months? It probably feels like forever to you but it will pass soon Smile

Mine still is allergic he is 13months. He hasn't had milk since about 5months. Think we will be trying a re introduction soon, however he does have Pepti so isn't totally milk free so am hoping for success :)

What's pepti Emz? Fingers crossed for you though!

my dd's have both grown out of soya, lactose and gluten intolerances that were really severe, I couldnt tell you when it happened I think dd1 was about 6 but we only discovered them all when she was 4.

Melon it is still early days. Lots of children grow out of milk and egg allergies but it can take up to age 5. Of course many people have the allergy for life, especially if they have multiple allergies, but there is always hope. I feel your pain, allergies are awful Hmm

Thank you. I'm just a bit down about what ds is missing out on at the moment and feel so randomly jealous of other parents giving their babies things without scrutinising the ingredients.

You will find as time goes on that your ds won't be missing out on a lot as you find lots of great substitutes for things. But I get what you mean...if my dd asks for something she can't have I could literally weep Hmm

Label reading does get easier and much faster over time. Initially I could spend hours in the supermarket Shock

Sorry. Cow and gate Pepti junior is a formula which is highly broken down similar to nutramigen so still has traces in but is very low. Babies that cannot tolerate Pepti will go onto nutramigen or neocate. So in essence he still does have a tad bit of milk. I've noticed his ezcema has flared up so not sure what's started that again! Trail and error :(

DS hasn't outgrown his either but because pepti is whey based he can now tolerate a small bit of baked in whey powder, which surprisingly widens things he can eat!
