No wheat, no maize, no oats, no barley, millet, spelt - what to have for breakfast

Am feeling depressed challenged by the latest food restriction. My boys are 8 and 4, are also dairy free and can't have peanuts or sesame.

So far we have
Rice flour pancakes
Eggs and bacon, no carbs

We can't get gluten free rice crispies here and the amaranth and quinoa options have been dismissed by the 8 year old as horrible (they are!)

Suggestions welcome!!

Would they consider rice pudding made with eg almond milk?

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 28/03/2013 17:27

Rice porridge -two ways.

  1. Made with rice flakes and rice milk in the microwave, with a bit of added Pure margarine and served with golden syrup and or fruit.
  1. Mashed banana and rice milk mixed with baby weaning rice. Gets expensive using this for larger children sized portions.

Also potato bread.

Mix mashed potato with rice flour and dry-fry slices in rice flour. Then the slices an be frozen and reheated in Lakeland toaster bags to guard them from any crumbs in the toaster.

Pressed post too early, rice suggestions also great, I have ground rice in my blender before so will try that. Potato cakes were not popular but will try again.

rice krispies?

Bumply · 28/03/2013 19:39

Rice crispies have barley malt, but at a low enough level for some coeliacs to tolerate it.

Bumply · 28/03/2013 19:40

Pancakes made from gram flour or buckwheat flour?

simpson · 28/03/2013 19:40

DD is 5 and is dairy, soya, oats and barley free and she has her special rice crispies from H&B (sorry I know you said you could not get them) but she follows it off with a pot of puréed fruit which she calls her " special yogurt" (you can buy them in the baby isle but they don't look like baby food iyswim just 4 pots.

Also could your DC tolerate lacto free milk?

trixymalixy · 28/03/2013 19:49

The Doves cocoa rice seem to satisfy all your needs and are really tasty.

Buckwheat makes tasty pancakes too, and you could make american style ones and freeze so you only have to microwave them in the morning. Try making some muffins with various berries, carrot muffins (like carrot cake, but with applesauce instead of oil and pineapple to reduce the sugar) and freeze them so they can choose
