What to put in bath?

Wondered what other members thought the best to put in my 1 yr old's bath (we only bath twice/week now). Have tried Aveeno powder which isn't brilliant, Oilatum and Aqueous cream - not fantastic either.

Someone told me put salt in??? Anyone done this...is it just normal sea salt? How much? Does it matter which brand?

Foe eczema? If so, don't use anything. We don't, and we wash ds with Aqueous cream. Oilatum merely makes the bath greasy!

Salt?!!! never heard of that one.

My ds has exzema, we use dermal when it's bad, otherwise just water.

Never heard of putting salt in the water. I use Oilatum. You should use an emollient in the bath though not just plain water as it will dry the skin out more. Putting aqueous cream on before getting in the bath I have found very good for my 2 children as it protects the skin from chemicals in the water. You should bathe daily for at least 10 mins.

Aveeno bath oil is great and with that and the lotion and cream has wiped out DS's excema.

Our health visitor said lots of kids are allergic to Aqueous cream and it surely seems so with DS - makes him so much worse!!

We were told not to bathe daily - kids don;t need it as don't sweat much and you will strip the natural oils in their skin.

porridge oats wrapped in a muslin and hung under the tap will make the water very soft and moisturising for the skin

Twinkie1 · 09/05/2006 14:24

Aveeno cream is based on colloidal oatmeal and so will do the same as oatmeal.

Balneum soya oil is pretty good for my dd.

HV told me to rub skin gently with a flannel while bathing. Seems to work well.

another vote for aveeno oil - it is fabulous!

The only thing about salt is that on the few occasions we've used swimming pools that are 'sea' ones, DD's skin has been wonderfully soft and excema cleared up. I wonder if it works. I shall ask my friend again about what she used.

i get eczema and always have done since i was a baby. i used to wash it with salt water and it really helped! Not really sure why or how or anything but it did! We added a little bit(a couple of pinches) of salt to the water and dissolved it and it worked wonders! That as just reminded me, must try it with DD!
