Why is dd better on soya formula than Neocate?

DD has been on Neocate for 7 weeks but seems better on soya formula. We run out of neocate over the easter weekend and put her on soya formula for a week, although it constipates her, but she still doesn't go even with the neocate, and has been prescribed a laxative by the paed.

On the neocate she spits up more, sleep less, fusses more, has been congested for 7wks (have a 2 year old that goes to nursery so could be a cold) and doesn't feed as well. Has just taken me an hr to get 90mls into her while she kept drawing her legs to her tummy, she doesn't do this on the soya and will easily drain 200ml-240ml without any problem.

Has anyone had these problems.

How long did you give the soya for? It might not have been that she was truely better on it, just that it was a change from the neocate.

My DS2 appeared to be better on soya and then at about day 10 suddenly got very bad and now cant take it. consultant was not surpirsed by his reaction and said somoe babies are so 'pleased' with the change in their diet that they appear to be getting on better, but it is only 'masking' the problems. Hope that makes sense.

Of course, your DD may well be better off on soya. I'd get some professional advice if I were you. Good luck

DS seemed to be doing wonderfully with soya, now soya is the worst of his allergies.

that is sort of what I was saying too chandra

It's a bit of a long story but we went from breast to soya (1 week) to aptimal back to soya (2wks) to Nutramigen (3 days reacted immediately) to neocate (6wks) to soya (1wk) and back to neocate. Don't ask about all the chopping a changing but my paeds/gps/hvs haven't been to clued up.

omg poor little thing. It will be hard to make a real judgement until she is on anything for a length of time. Have you considered it is not necessarily an allergy thing, possibly reflux? Got to go and put kids to bed now, but will check back later if you want to chat more etc

She has reflux too but has been on rantitidine since she was 6wks old (now 5mnths) and is doing well on it. She isn't allergic but is definitely intolerant to cow's milk protein. I eventually, realised it was CMP and not lactose intolerance (as the paed thought) when she reacted immediately with the nutramigen. This is my 2nd CMPI child and i wish i had discovered this 2.5 years ago then i might have been able to carry on breastfeeding.
