Sleeping better with daytime bottle replaced with oat milk?

DS (13m) is on Aptamil Pepti 2 for his delayed allergy, I always thought he still reacted to it slightly but as he totally refused neocate and neutramigen it was the best option.

I've replaced his mid morning bottle with oat milk because it's easier to take out on the days we're out at that time & I want to wean this drink to a cup which he just refuses to take formula in.

Since I've replaced it (10 days ago) he's started sleeping better? No more crying/whinging in his sleep or wakings really. His formula bottles are at bedtime and about 5am, is it possible that those aren't bothering him because it would bother him in the day and he's up and about so it doesn't cause him reflux as much?

It's really odd! maybe just a coincidence?

Hi, oat milk isn't very high in calories to be a milk substitute. Have you tried alpro junior 1+...same aisle as oat milk? If he can take soya. It's what our paed dietician advised us to use with ds post 12m as milk sub...he wouldn't ever take formula just breast milk.

He can't have soy unfortunately, or nuts so we only have rice or coconut milk. It's not a formula substitute, he still has 2 bottles of formula per day so has enough + he's a good eater normally, if he isn't I offer him extra formula. His weight isn't an issue as he's on the 99th centile x

You could try mixing a little oat cream in with the oat milk to bump up the calories (we mixed to give calories which were more or less equivalent to full fat milk, which works out at 1 oz of oat cream with 5 oz oat milk). We did this for Ds2 as he suffered from such bad reflux with neocate that the paed wanted to operate on him to stop it.

The dietician was happy with this solution and ds2 was like a different child to when he was on neocate.

Hi op.no soya what a pain :( rice milk not suitable for under 5s due to levels of arsenic in it.
Advice re coconut cream sounds good. Hope your little one grows out of it soon..we're getting there slowly!

I have no intention of stopping his formula totally, he has been great with it at the moment plus I find that when he had oat milk in the morning he doesn't have a long nap (1hr compared to 2.5 with formula)!

Ill pass on the oat cream idea to a friend with an underweight boy who keeps asking how Ds is so huge with all his allergies and what she can feed her Ds.

We have tried coconut, but he's not keen on it. I know re the rice, he had it before because my locals only do rice before I knew about the arsenic, he has sips of my tea with it (gp says that's ok as it's small amounts) that he lives to steal while I use it up!

Thanks, we have our milk challenge in 2 weeks. Sure he'll fail this one tbh but hoping hell be ready soon. I want to do a soya one as he can now tolerate more cooked soya whereas before he couldn't even have bread with any in it. Having soya in his diet would make things a lot easier xx
