yesterday we were at a friend's and dd2 ( 11 months) munched two things she has never had before - cheesy wotsits and also some fresh strawberry ( yes I know I shouldn't!). Ten minutes later she started scratching her head and scalp frentically and was really distressed, went to sleep after about 15 mins briefly. When she woke I tried to give her some proper food ( it was tea time) and she was violently sick and emotied her tummy completely. But then she was fine and has been fine since then.
So: I am pretty sure this was a severe reaction to either the wotsits or the strawberry, would you agree? which one?
Thanks in advance.

Quite a few people are allergic to strawberries, so my money's on them. Is she OK now?

PinkTulips · 19/04/2006 11:39

wotsits have some nasty e numbers that can c
ause bad reactions in some, strawberries tend to be associated with hives

typing with dd on lap, sorry Blush

I was admitted to hospital last year through eating a strawberry yoghurt

It doesn't sound like any reaction to additives that Ive heard of. But if you suspect the wotsits, dont say anything in front of your dd, and give her some more (w'out strawberries!) in a couple of weeks time, and see what happens.

Heartmum2Jamie · 19/04/2006 11:52

It definately sounds like a reaction to me. I would probably place a bet on the strawberry, but my ds is highly allergic to wotsits (hives though), so I guess it could be either or both! Not much help am I, lol!

Nightynight · 19/04/2006 11:52

just realised that sounds harsh, but Id want to know if one of my children had that sort of reaction to additives!

CHICagoMUM · 19/04/2006 11:54

I would consider giving her the one you suspect it isn't iyswim that way you'll hopefully get your answer without making her "suffer".

Strawberries would be my bet as a child a raw strawberry would give me vomitting and bowel upset for several days, i can eat jam but have NO desire to test whether i have outgrown the allergy Grin
