DS tested as allergic to dust mites - any suggestions

DS has been run down & under weather for a few years with constant colds, headaches etc.

After many GP visits we go for a private consultation with an ENT consultant who tests hhim for allergies.

Turns out he had a reaction to dust mites.

So, lots of hovering now, we already have wooden floors & very un mumsnet leather sofas.

Need to get mattress covers that are anti allergic,

Any other suggestions?

I suffered a dust allergy/hayfever/animals when I was younger, and into my adult life too. I used to put vaseline just into each nostril as it seemed to stop anything attaching in there! ie dust.....also, I'd get so itchy and stuffed up. Itchy eyes, itchy mouth and throat. I find that sleeping in a cool room eases any congestion, and perhaps maybe even an air purifier? However, I do have a salt lamp in my bedroom now and find this seems to keep my symptoms at bay.
Good luck, it can be very miserable xx

Thank you, I've never heard of a salt lamp, will be investing in one now.

Hi, my Ds is also allergic to dust mites. We have covers on the mattresses and pillows (from John Lewis) a wooden floor in his bedroom and I wash his sheets on 60 degrees. When younger he had cotton duvets which I washed at 60 degrees as well. We also now have leather sofas (though they have material on one side of the cushions which I don't think is ideal). I wipe the surfaces down with Dettol anti bacterial surface cleanser which I think is supposed to be anti dust mite. Also when he was younger I put soft toys in the freezer overnight and then washed them. Only one favourite allowed at night too. It all helps his asthma though so it's worth it. We take anti dust mite covers away on holidays with us too.
