Celiacs poo question...

FSB · 01/01/2013 18:44

My DD (3yo) is celiac and has been gluten free for just over a year. Generally we do really well with the diet, but we eat out quite a lot and very occasionally there is a bit of contamination. When she did poos in her nappy I could tell if they were a bit soft but recently she's started going on the loo instead.

I wondered if anyone could tell me whether it's a case that floaters are soft and sinkers are hard or whether it doesn't work like that... Sorry to be gross, but she's going through a phase of saying she has a tummy ache fairly regularly (even if I'm 100% sure there hasn't been any contamination and there's no bloating or other symptoms) and I wondered whether this was a way I could tell... Thanks for your help.

Hi, my DS is also coeliac and I've been told that it's the floaters we have to look out for, sinkers mean all is well.

I'm coeliac, and I know when they float I've been "glutened" Sounds like you are doing well though

My coeliacs sons poo after he's been gluten have a really sweet sickly smell to them ... He has uncontrollable diahorrea and the smell always gives it away

Thanks for your replies... She has varying degrees of reaction, from soft poos for very tiny amounts of contamination to mucussy diahorea for proper contamination (and vomiting with it the few times someone has given her something with a large gluten component)

Good to know that it's the floaters I need to look out for, thanks :)
