Blotchy face in 8mo after eating yoghurt

Can anyone advise/point me in the right direction please?

DS is 8 months, ebf til 6 months and slowly introducing different foods in same way as for DD.

Yoghurt seems to give him a blotchy face....no other symptoms that I can tell.

He does have dry skin and prone to mild eczema on joints. For background he had a tongue tie (twice decided) and bad reflux as a newborn.

From reading on here it seems my GP might not be interested as DS is not losing weight, but I don't want to start him on cows milk once he's 1 if he's intolerant.

Thanks for any pointers.

Is it fairly immediate after eating? If so could be an allergic reaction rather than intolerance. GP should refer on for testing if so. If it is an allergy you need to know so you can avoid the allergen (most likely cows milk protein) as it could be dangerous to continue to give it. Both mine have had allergies since weaning - weight loss has not been an issue though they have both been on the small side of average. Do you know if he has a reaction when he gets yogurt on his skin, say on his arm by accident? This would also point to an allergy. If it is a cow's milk protein allergy, you might expect to see a reaction to other products containing it - butter, milk, cheese, cream etc... though I remember with weaning my son some produced clearer reactions early on.

Hopefully your DS is not allergic, but having said that it's important to avoid allergens if he is, it really is something you get used to and adjust to :)

Thanks so much for your reply.

Yes, he does react when it touches his skin. Best avoid I think and get to the GP.

Thanks again.

this factsheet from the anaphylaxis campaign might be useful. There are new NICE guidelines that you might be able to wave at your GP if they are not receptive to helping you get a diagnosis but hopefully you won't need them and they'll be very helpful. Hope it goes well - meantime, I've found this forum invaluable for various questions I've had along the way about diet etc...
All the best

Yes thats an allergy. It can get worse with each exposure so definitely stop all dairy.

Also, I bf my CMPA baby he had reflux until I stopped dairy in my diet.

Thanks for the fact sheet, really interesting and useful.

Good point about the reflux. I wonder if that's what it was.
