So just been told have pea & tree nut allergy.

Do I need to avoid lentils/chick peas / I guess nut oils? ANd anything marked may contain traces of nuts?

Can see the things I am able to eat shrinking rapidly......

With these nut allergies, are anything else common/ what do I need to know, apart from, don't eat nuts. Feel rather frustrated at lack of infos. Already called back with Q. It's useless (I always think of these things after the event. Din't even get an info sheet or anything.)

I also am coeliac and have a peanut and tree nut allergy. It's not so bad once you get used to what you can and can't have.

Lentils and chickpeas are fine. Yes avoid nuts and remember to check things like icecreams and curries (I had a bad reaction last month where I was led to believe it was nut free) and cakes where nuts may be used instead of flour. Also remember to check the oils if you go for massages, facials etc.

Avoid kissing, shaking hands, sharing cutlery etc with people who have had nuts. Ask for extra precautions to be taken when eating out-eg. the ice cream scoop to be washed before serving you, chef to have washed hands before preparing yours.

Good luck! It's not so bad once you get the hang of what you can and can't eat Smile

I know the feeling red dwarf. Ds was diagnosed with peanut allergy and they asked at the time if I had any questions but I was a bit taken by surprise and said no. Now I have loads of questions!

I have found sainsburys allergy lists to be really good and their own brand stuff seems to be the best out of all the supermarkets for nut free (not sure about gluten but I know they do have a gluten free list with the allergy info on website). The doctor told me to avoid any take away curries or Chinese as they often have hidden nuts. I started making my own but then found that many of the herbs and spices in my cupboard said may contain nuts or traces of nuts (shwartz and sainsburys seem to be best for nut free). I have found it hard to find nut free ice creams. M and s have a couple but there aren't many others I don't think. Most other food though we have been able to substitute with nut free alternatives from the supermarket quite easily once you learn how different companies label! They all seem to have different ways which makes it hard at first until you get used to where to look. If you have any questions about certain products, feel free to ask. I have spent the last month contacting different firms to find out their policies on labelling ( as quite a lot of products don't have allergy info at all, most put it in a separate box but some don't , they list it in the ingredients instead). at first i felt i didn't know where to start but am now feeling much more confident when buying things.Smile
