Hi ,I am a new comer here.

My 3 yr old son is severely allergic to milk, egg, nuts, soya, lentils, coconut, sesame and some pulses. He gets hives if he touches contaminated surfaces or some one touches him without washing hands free of allergens. It would be great to talk to some one in a similar situation.I dont know how feasible going to school would be.Any help appreciated.

Hives from contact are quite common.
Our son regularly had hives. from all sorts of situations, from wriggling under the bed ( dustmite) or full body hives from running naked under the trees (pollen) or hives in the car, this was if the heating vents were pointed in his direction( again pollen)
At one stage removed egg from home as he had hive reaction when he stood next to me in kitchen as I fried one!
Now he is able to eat cooked egg. So bare in mind that things do change. Allergies seem to change rapidly as they grow older. They dont all go, but some do.

Hives as an only reaction are not serious, its a pointer to observation in case of other symptoms.
Which you may already know.

Pre-school IS possible. look around all in your area, and chat to each leader and choose the one who is more open to your sons situtation.
They will more than likely these days to be 'allergy aware' certainly they will have come across nut allergy. They may not have of had experience of a child like yours with multiple allergies, but many have had training in epi pens .

The two main issues are food, cooking, and snack time. A management plan can be arranged to reduce the risk of a contact reaction and reduce the chance of anaphylaxis.
the anaphylaxis campaign do have a schools link,
www.allergyinschools.org.uk and they feature pre-schools.

I think it would be helpful to met other parents who have a child like yours, it certainly helped us.
Try the anaphylaxis campaign , and go to the parents workshops or the family fun days. Or even see if there is a support group in your area.

if you want I am happy to talk to you if you want.
just so you know , my sons allergies are to date ( he is 10 now , they have changed, lost some, gained some diffrent ones!) peanut/all beans/egg/kiwifruit/marmite/bovril/dog/cat/tree pollen/hay fever/dustmite

Some antihistamines, some ezcema creams etc etc.

hope this helps.

Hello,

My DS is also 3 and has severve allergies to milk and egg, plus others we dont know what they are (chemicals). He gets hives on contact and gets hives when he touches a surface that has had a bit of tea with milk split on it and not properly wiped up etc etc.

DS started at pre-school last year and has not had a major incident atall which is fantastic. They are so careful these days at schools, they really are. He has had hives there on two occasions only. CAT me if you would like to chat more on this.

Hi vmnn ,my son is allergic to tree nuts/tree pollen/eggs/dogs and a few other minor ones.He attends preschool 4 days a week with no problems. He also reacts through second hand contact ,but I don't really worry too much about hives.I only really treat with antihistamines if he is really itchy and uncomfortable.
I will second the fact that allergies change,ds has recently been food challenged for cooked egg...and passedSmile. That has made things a bit easier.

We are attending our first parents workshop with the anaphylaxis campaign in april so hopefully that will educate us some more.

I'm sure the school will beable to care for your child,it will just mean careful planning and education. We have found ds's preschool really helpful and caring, eventhough ds was the first allergic child they've had. They all had epipen and inhaler training and I am so grateful to them.It has been a lot easier than I thought.
