ds2 has hayfever, antihistamines don't work, except piriton which works for the hayfever but then gives him terrible itching side effect.

been prescribed rapitil eyedrops, but has had them before and aren't brill as none are for him.

was thinking of giving him a nasal spray because he can't sleep he's so bunged up. Can anone tell me which is best and if it can be used with the eye drops??

Festiveface, my DS had a nasal spray last year, but I don't know the name; I've thrown it away as it was past its sell-by date. It had to be prescribed, I don't think you could buy over the counter. Homeopathy has helped him, not so much for the acute symptoms but for overcoming the allergy problems he's inherited from me! For his itchy eyes I bathed them in a flannel dipped in cooled camomile tea--drops didn't work for us either.

dd and me have the beconase one and its fantastic, I cannot live without it in the summer months. dd is 9 not sure how old your ds is, they do a steroid free one but its not very good

Flixanase was brilliant for me last year. I don't know if children can use it, but I think the doc can prescribe it.

just googled beconase, can only see a spray suitable for 18+
ds2 is 7

I have been prescribed one - can't remember the name but it can't be used by under 16 or 18's. There must be specific ones for children only so you best check with the pharmacist or your gp.

my son has used nasal sprays for at least a couple of years.
he has flixonase aqueous spray once a day.

and aqueous eye drops 4 time a day.

and desloratadine antihistamine daily. ( this is a non drowsy varity.

Piriton is quite a strong orginal antihistamine which does make a person groggy and sleepy. This is pretty good for emergancy allergic reactions, not daily.
long term effects of piriton are nausea, loss of appetite, ( sorry its late cant spell!) and headaches.
There are many second generation antihistamines out there which are worth trying.
my son also has a allergic reaction to claritin , which is odd, but not unexpected with his allergy history!

I am currently considering trying Nasaleze which is apparently good for hay fever symtoms, etc but has a knock on effect for improvement in other allergies like dustmite.
I am going to question my Gp further on this, but this is avalible in chemists, a 500mg bottle costs £6.95
hope this helps
