My DD hasn't go it but it is definitely the start of my hayfever season as the flowers are on the shrubs & trees now, which is my particular problem. Mine starts usually late Feb/early Mar and finishes late May.

Katemum · 04/04/2006 20:33

Mine has started over the last couple of days.

rummum · 04/04/2006 20:42

funnily enough I gave DS some piriton at the end of last week as he had itchy eyes and kept blowing his nose...

hulababy · 05/04/2006 11:08

DD has been playing outside this morning and her nose and eyes are streaming. Looks like the hayfever is back. Going to be worse this year I bet too as we are no longer in the city centre and on the outskirts of the city surrounded by fiends and hills. Best go and buy more piriton I think!

gigwig · 05/04/2006 15:04

Yes DS is... saw this thread and it reminded me that he's starting it, he usually gets a bad asthma attack at the change of seasons too (now I am waiting for that to happen...)

Arabica · 05/04/2006 16:43

I've had really bad hayfever today and my DS is starting to sneeze a bit too. Feeling v sorry for myself because I'm pg and can't take my usual drugs.

trace2 · 05/04/2006 16:44

yes been to gp and his astma back tooSad

CountessDracula · 05/04/2006 16:44

Ahhh that's why i feel so crap today!

sunshinedays · 05/04/2006 17:36

my hubbie has had hayfever fro the last three days... good news for non sufferers though - the first sign of summer!

expatinscotland · 05/04/2006 17:39

Our entire family is sneezing, itchy eyed, coughing and either bunged up or runny nosed.

Even the 3 month old.

No fever. No other symptoms, just good ol' fashioned sinusitis and hay fever. It always socks me like a brick - my throat and ears are killing me and I'm popping pills like sweeties.

Nonyummymummy · 05/04/2006 19:24

Out of interest what treatment does you all favour? Personally I found Piriton fantastic - the only problem was I wanted to sleep all day. Then a pharmacist recommended Beconase nasal spray to me - the relief was marvellous! My doctor said I could use sparingly during pregnancy so I used a quarter of the normal dose for the worst days.

doobydoo · 05/04/2006 19:27

I am waiting for my son to exhibit the symptoms!
Piriton is good but I live in the R.O.I now and it seems to be hard to get.I tried him on the new era tabs last year and they seemed to be effective

mandymac · 05/04/2006 19:29

hmmmmm - this might explain why dd (9 months) has had a really snotty nose the last few days. DH & I both get hayfever - poor thing, would she get symptoms this young? Sad

festiveface · 05/04/2006 22:14

possibly mandymac but could just be a cold.
i thought ds2 had a cold and conjunctivitis, he's got some anibiotic eyedrops from the octor today. Maybe i should be treating him for hayfever instead. I really didn't think it would start this soon Sad
it's usually may.
god,if he's this bad now, whats he going to be like in june/july ?
total nightmare last year, kept being sent home from school he was such a state and we couldn't get any sleep either.
i feel sorry for anyone who has this it must be awful judging by ds2 .

williamsmummy · 05/04/2006 22:20

No , its not hay fever, its tree pollen allergy!
hay fever is later in the summer!

has son who needs antihistime daily, nasal sprays once a day and eye drops 4 times a day.

its not a fun time of year.

If I add the ezcema /epi pens / oral steriods/migraine meds/, well, I almost strip boots the chemist of stuff, about two huge carrier bags!!

Northerner · 06/04/2006 10:14

I'm bunged up and suffering from sinusitis. Ds (4) has itchy red eyes and it always sniffing and rubbing his nose. Bless, his little nose even has a crease running accros it now from all the rubbing.

It it OK to give them Piriton long term?

bambi06 · 06/04/2006 10:24

yes me too, feeling drowsy, nose and palate itchy and of course, sneezing..im off to drs for my favourite nasal spray, over the years this one actually works..i think its called flixonase ..bit like the beconase ones but through drs..a couple of days use and hey presto..no symptoms

Kabsy · 06/04/2006 11:39

No, thankfully DD doesn't seem to have inherited my hayfever! Smile

I havent started yet I should think Mid May - End of May trough To end of June for me grass pollen is my unfortunate allergy. Sad

oaksey · 06/04/2006 12:21

Mine has started def, and i think it is tree pollen at this time of year. first baby due in 3 weeks but hope it hurries up so i can get back on to my usual cocktail of drugs!!

festiveface · 06/04/2006 23:17

williamsmummy, which antihistamine, sprays and drops does your ds use?
we seem to have tried everything except nasal sprays.
just got rapitil eye drops, do you know if it's o.k to use piriton and a nasal spray together with that?
my ds is 7 btw.

festiveface · 06/04/2006 23:28

how old is he williamsmum?
would desloratadine be prescripion only?

we have tried clarityn (loratadine) , i am assuming this is different?

OP posts:
williamsmummy · 07/04/2006 11:39

william is just 10, and yes the desloratatine is on prescription.
i get the nasal sprays and eye drops from doc as well.
He has been on this seasonal regime for years.

the aqueous eye drops 4x daily nasal spray, flixonase aqueous spray, once a day.

A good heavy rain is a wonderful break for the tree pollen allergic at this time of year! Lets hope we get some!
