before i give it to 7.5 month old dd. she has quite bad excema (been prescribed betnovate todayShock)and my 'female intuition' says its to do with dairy fomula. i have cut dairy out of solids diet but she drinks 20ozs a day ofdairy based formula (aptimal) so seems a bit pointless unless i quit this too.

she is a PITA to feed milk and has aways hated milk, which i feel may have been her way of telling me its doing her harm(...am i just clutching at straws now???), she never drinks more than 3ozs at a time.

Does soya milk taste very different? will it still allow her to gain weight at same rate as with formula?

secondly dd is prone to constipatation unless she drinks lots of water, would soya exacerbate this?

would love to hear of your experiences. Her excema is getting terrible, so am desperate to try this avenue of 'treatment'

p.s....i had bought the cow and gate soya formula weeks ago but after opening it decided not to use it. just noticed on the it says discard after 4 weeks if opened...why? is it still okay to use? hope so since was very expensiveShock.

yentil - my ds use to suffer from terrible constipation, gas and tummy ache from birth till I moved him to soya formula at 13mnths, after going backwards and forwards to GPs and paed. Formula was the only milk product he was having.

Tried cow's milk formula 3 mnths later and the constipation, etc returned within 2 days, back onto soya and it all went away again. He is still on soya and he is now 2. Turns out he is cow's milk intolerant.

Your dds excema could be related to the milk, what do your HV, GP, etc say about it?

I think the best thing to do is speak to your HV about soya then go from then. I think changing to cow's milk free or hypoallergenic formula is definitely worth a try.

Yes, it tastes different but ds had no problems taking it and still loves it. We used the C&G infasoy. Soya formula is high in sugar so keep those teeth clean.

All formulas say 'consume within 4 weeks', it might just be a precaution but i wouldn't risk it and would personally go buy a new can.

Good luck

Forgot to mention, some children/babies also have a problem with soya, so best thing to do is push the issue with your health professionals.
