Dennie-Morgan folds??

Took DS (19mths) to GP this morning about his facial rash and swollen eyes. The GP took one look at him and pointed out that his double folds in his lower eyelids were something called Dennie-Morgan folds and were a major marker for allergic children, and that his rash is actually a form of eczema and it's all related. When googling it I found a bbc page pointing it out along with other allergy markers that on reflection i notice my son has :-(
Does any one elses DC have these markers? What should I make of it all?
Thanks in advance

My ds is 5 and has these. It was the first thing the consultant pointed out when he was referred for allergy testing recently. He has asthma and eczema and is allergic to cats, pollen and dust mites.

Do you have any idea what's causing your dc's rash and swollen eyes? What did the gp say, have your ds been given any treatment or referred?

There's loads of info on the allergy uk website, and lots of helpful people on here too :)

My DD has the white line across the nose and the black circled eyes (allergic shiners). She has had these since being a toddler and is very atopic, she is now 14yrs and her list of allergies is still growing! I suppose it will just make you more aware that any illness could be allergy related. It might be an idea to keep a bottle of anti histamines around you at home and when you go out. Thats what I do just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for replying both, I had never heard if these markers before today and it hadn't crossed my mind that my DS may have allergies. Yes he is always getting rashes, yes he seems to have a near permanent cough, yes his eyes regularly swell, and yes he sneezes a lot! But i hadn't put them down to allergies at all. I don't know anyone with allergies and so I hadn't even considered it! Sad
I feel really bad for him, all you want for your child is for them to be happy and healthy and having allergies sounds such a PITA!! Sad
The GP didn't send me on for anymore tests or anything, so how do I know what his allergies are?!
All he said was to start using a strong barrier cream like Vasaline on his face and hands all day everyday - which sounds HORRIBLE! - to help his skin block out allergens and stop the rashes. I know that wouldn't feel nice at all!
Maybe I should go back and ask for tests?
So confused! Blush

I'd definately go back to the gp. I can understand that Vaseline around the nostrils might help trap the allergens before they go up the nose but I've not heard of using it as a barrier on the skin. Seems a bit odd to me. I'm surprised you weren't given any emollient or hydrocortisone if the rashes are a form of eczema.

My ds takes the antihistamine cetririzine, it's non drowsy and seems to be helping. He also has eye drops and two different inhalers as he has asthma too. He was given the blue inhaler (ventolin) first before they diagnosed asthma because he had a persistent cough.

We were referred for allergy testing by the gp, but only after I changed to a different surgery. There are NICE guidelines that gps have to following regarding allergies. If you google or search previous threads you should be able to find a link.

I hope you get it sorted :)
