Can anyone suggest any other cream, please?

Not sure what else we can try.

Diprobase and double base are a big no no as well.

Has your baby been seen by a dermatologist? If not, I strongly recommend you push for a referral - don't take no for an answer. If emollients are not working then it sounds like you will probably need some decent strength steroid ointments initially until it's under control and then a good eczema management plan to keep it that way. In the meantime, have you tried hydrous or 50/50?

Been a miracle for my dd

We ended up using Allergenics, it's expensive but you can get it on prescription. It doesn't come in big tubs unfortunately only tubes but it did the trick with ds who ended up reacting to most of the normal emollients. It might be best to buy a tube first and if it does the trick asking the GP to prescribe it. The dermatology department at our hospital was quite good with us but when it came to trying to source something other than Epaderm or Hydromol it was left up to me really. Good luck

He is under the care of a dermatologist.

His skin is really good - now. But we keep eczema at bay with regular moisturisers, and now hes developed an allergy to oilatum.

Pure, unfortunately costs a fortune! But very good idea, Id forgotten about that option. Im not sure if we could keep it up though he needs head to toe moisturising twice a day. A big pot of pure potions last us 3 days last time.

And 3 GP's, and the dermatologist wont prescribe it.

definitely gpush for a paediatric dermatologist referral, it changed our lives! we use dermal products on prescription as the only set of stuff dd now 13 is not allergic to, finally got it figured out age 3 after 18 months of hell. you may also go down the 50/50 white soft paraffin route plus maybe wet wrapping. it does work. a good allergy nurse is a godsend of information on all this stuff.

also you need to bath, pat dry and apply emollients within 3 minutes for full benefit

overthemill · 06/09/2012 09:34

sorry xposted, ask dermatologst for dermal it is briliant

freefrommum · 06/09/2012 15:35

Forgot to mention trying Dermol instead of Oilatum for the bath.

ZingelbertBimbledack · 06/09/2012 15:51

Have you tried Cetraben? It is the only thing we could use on my dd with her eczema. Don't think it's widely advertised by GPs as it's quite expensive. Get it on prescription though and it's free to you Smile

My ds has epaderm ointment, cetraben, then switches between eumovate and dermovate as his steroid cream. We also use epaderm in the bath. He tried most other emollients to no effect. Also we find that the ointments are better did him than cream based emollients but you may find your dc is different.

We also get the dermasilk pyjamas on prescription and have found this has reduced our need for steroids.

Does your dc have piriton or similar to take? We found this at full dosage was one of the only ways to stop him scratching through all his layers until he bled each night. We also have antibiotics in powder form ready to give if ds needs them at anytime so we can zap a bad flare up more quickly.

Sorry this is long. Don't know about allergies but my ds is highly allergic to lots of foods and they all contribute to a severe eczema flare up. It bugs me when people say "oh he gets a wee bit if eczema with certain foods" actually no, he breaks out from head to toe in pus filled bleeding and weeping cracked skin that is so itchy and dry that he cries himself to sleepAngry

Hope you get some more help
