DS, 10m, is dairy and soy intolerant. He has been breast fed, is great on solids and is 98th percentile.
He is about to start nursery and I am going back to work and could do with dropping night feeds to get more than 3 hours sleep at a time.
I intend to keep bfing when I can but we have been given neocate to get us through the next couple of months.

Obviously the sachets make a pint and I'm not sure we will always need that much and I don't want to compromise my supply by using formula when I could bf.

So:
Is it ok to only make up half a sachet? How critical is it if the amounts of dry are not quite precise?

Can I cook with it like I can with normal milk?

Can I freeze it either as made up milk or cooked in something like custard or rice pudding, pasta bake etc?

Is it Neocate Active? DS had Neocate LCP which came in a tin so I'm not sure about sachets. I did use it to make custard etc and it worked ok (albeit still with a pretty strong Neocate taste). There is a Neocate website with recipes that might give you ideas.
Does your DS like it? I could never get my BF DS to accept the taste of it.

Don't worry about being precise with Neocate Active because in fact you can adjust the concentration with this formula anyway (with my DS we use less water to make up each sachet in order to get maximum down him with minimum fuss!). The website has info about this. Yes you can use it in cooking eg custard etc but no idea about freezing it as never attempted this. Can't see why not personally but maybe the website will clarify. We have always kept it overnight in the fridge without any problems.

Have you tried your DS on it yet? If not, a word of warning: it tastes foul! You might have to really persevere in order to get him to drink it. We had to mix it with DS's previous formula and very gradually increase the amount of Neocate until he was eventually just accepting the Neocate on its own. My DS is now 5 and we are trying to wean him off it - he's not very happy! He loves his Neocate and is not keen on any of the alternatives but there you go...

He's actually on neocate advance, which having done some research surprises me. I guess its because he's under 12 months but over 10kg,

He's not tried it yet... we'll try it tomorrow, mixed with some expressed bm and see how he gets on with it. There's nothing he's disliked so far... (although he wasn't a fan of sorbet because it was cold and he wasn't too sure about the texture of jelly...)

dont worry about guessing half a sachet, we do this sometimes when we only need to make up 200mls.

when we have been in hospital the "milk kitchen" send to the ward fridge 3 days supply already made up and we were told by the dietician that it keeps for 4 days in the fridge made up, havnt had to do that at home though!

Good to know it keeps longer.

The fantastic news is that he seems to like it. Had it on weetabix this morning (mixed with bm) had some to drink at lunchtime and then had it in custard for tea. Result!
