Rice milk & arsenic qs

I'm currently dairy, soya and egg-free as my 9 month old son is allergic and breastfed. I also have a 2 1/2 yr old son.
I'm missing lots of food that I used to enjoy, so have been looking at recipes online, and many of them use rice milk. I know that children can't drink rice milk due to the arsenic levels, but I have two questions which I can't seem to find the answer to. Can anyone help?

  • Can children eat food containing cooked rice milk? Or does the arsenic remain?
  • Can I drink/eat food containing rice milk, or can arsenic pass through my breastmilk?

I use oat milk a lot, but it would be nice to have another option....

You could use 'Kara' coconut milk - available from tescos and health food shops.
Or Ecomil quinoa milk.
Or Hemp milk.

As I understand it, children can eat foods containing rice milk very occasionally, but should not be eating vast quantities, or eating them every day.

The arsenic in rice milk is only present in very small amounts, but it can build up in the body and have a cumulative effect - which is why children should not be drinking rice milk all the time as a main drink.

I don't know whether arsenic goes through into your breastmilk - most things do to some extent. If it does, the amount present would be very, very small. Should be okay unless you are drinking rice milk by the gallon.

Still, it might be better to use another 'milk' instead - lots of people get on well with Kara.

Thanks, I will definitely give Kara a try. Hadn't seen that one. I'll have a look for the other two milks too.
Think I might just steer clear of the rice milk for now.

Kara is by far the best dairy free milk! Lovely in tea and coffee.

I asked the same question to my dietitian and she said I can drink it but t's best not to use for baby's foods. Also have u tried the almond
Milk and coconut water. They are really good.
I got nutramigen AA prescribed to make up weaning foods and continued to breast feed. It's great as I cook with it. You get a free recipe book with the mill replacement .
