He is allergic to;

Milk
Goats milk
Eggs
Peas
Sweet corn
Celery
Potato
Green lentils
Peanuts
Hazlenuts
Othe nuts
Aveeno cream
The cold (cold weather, cold water, cold wind)
Pork
Chicken

How old is he?

My DS1 was allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, almonds, cashews, soya and couldn't really have tomatoes either although I don't think it was an allergy, when he was 2 or so. I never tried goats' or sheep's milk on him as I was advised that with an allergy to cows' milk as bad as his, he'd be unlikely to be OK with them. He was also allergic to diprobase and aqueous cream - the latter is used as a control in experiments because "no one ever reacts to it."

He is now 12, and only really still allergic to egg and milk. He seems to be growing out of the nut allergies but they have cut funding for challenges so we have been told to treat him as if he is still allergic - fine with me!

There is hope!

Gosh poor fella, thats a long list, I really feel for anyone whose child has multiple allergies, it must make life very difficult or challenging :(. Only one of mine has an allergy and its to Ibuprofen (and other similar meds) so its easy to manage.

OHforDUCKScake · 09/08/2012 18:26

Hes 14 months.

I thought lots of people would be adding. Id love to hear of others in the same boat.

Poor little man! what a long list! and poor you too.

Is he growing well? I hope you are you with a good pediatric allergist and that they are supporting you in this as it sounds like it must be really tough.

I thought my DD's list was bad. She had her first allergic reaction at 6.5 months to a baby rusk. SHe reacted to the wheat in it.

After then, like you it seemed like she would react to nearly everything we tried. Weaning was a very scary experience for me as her first reaction was a bad one.

she's allergic to:
Wheat
Eggs
Tree Nuts - all
Legumes incl. Peanuts, Soya, Peas, Lentils, Mung Beans, Chick Peas, Kidneys beans etc.
Sesame
Ginger
Rapeseed

Aveeno Cream
Tree Pollen (although I think also grass pollen)
Cats
Dogs

She is 4 years 10 months old and so far hasn't shown any signs of outgrowing her allergies. I find it all really really difficult as I am not a very good cook at all and feed my kids the same 2 or 3 meals day in day out. But DD is growing well and her allergist says that that's a good thing. We have to carry 2 epipens always and she has 2 types of antihistamine, Piriton for emergencies and NeoClarityn for viral urticaria and hayfever.

Sorry you're having a wobble. It's just so tough isn't it. I'd say we don't have a 'normal' life at all really but I hope everyday that one day DD might out grow some of these.

Sending you and your DS a virtual hug. xxx

eragon · 09/08/2012 22:58

ige allergic son, 16, allergic to
egg
peanut
beans
one tree nut allergy (grown out of rest)
kiwi fruit
yeast extract
high histamine foods such as raw tomatos, spinach etc
ALL environmental allergies.
possible seed allergy, still investigating.
many mystery reactions. seem to be par for course for multiple allergic people.

epi carried since 2yrs, but used so far only 3xs.

idopathic face swelling not connected to food, still under extensive investigation.

intolerence for one child, 14yrs, milk (anything from any udders!) and soya.

greenbananas · 10/08/2012 06:44

DS is 3.9 and has ige type allergies to:

cows milk (told to avoid all animal milk)
eggs
tree nuts
peanuts
bananas
sesame (told to avoid all seeds for now)
peas, lentils and baked beans (told to avoid all pulses)
garlic and I think onions too

There has been some improvement, e.g. he can now have citrus without getting horrible eczema. He used get hives from melon and cucumber but can eat those now. Apple doesn't have to be cooked any more, and he eats tinned peaches (but not fresh). He can eat ketchup and foods with tomato puree in (but still not fresh or canned tomatoes).

We are fortunate that DS can eat wheat and soya, even though his RAST tests showed that he was allergic to both. We are also very lucky that he doesn't seem to have environmental allergies. His skin was awful as a baby, with raw and weeping eczema, but is now lovely - so long as I don't put the wrong brand of sun-cream on him!

DS is very small and skinny, but so was his dad at this age. He eats virtually nothing and I am trying not to be worried about it as he still seems to have plenty of energy.

Dealing with allergies is hard and I have felt despondent about it many times, especially when DS was very small. However, every time I get really upset, I have a little lurk on the mumsnet special needs boards and realise that I am so lucky DS is otherwise a healthy and 'normal' child who will one day grow up to manage this himself and be independent from me and my helicopter mothering...

greenbananas · 10/08/2012 06:55

DUCKScake I've just had another look through your list and realised that you must be really struggling with feeding your DS2 a balanced diet - what a nightmare that he is allergic to meat!

I was vegetarian until I had DS, but have had to learn to cook and eat meat. He can't eat chicken and processed ham type things, but is dependent on mince and sausages etc. for protein.

What on earth do you eat??? Sad

OHforDUCKScake · 10/08/2012 10:05

At the moment he is ok with cod and salmon, wheat and soya.

So yesterday for example he had fish bolognese with pasta.

But yes, its really hard but what is more concerning is that its getting worse. Its showing no signs of slowing.

Ive asked for a referral to Guys hospital in London now.

Im scared it'll get to the point where theres nothing left to feed him.

OP posts:
garliclover · 10/08/2012 22:40

Great that you've asked for the Guys referral, as you'll probably get really good advice on the diet front. My DS's list is

cow's milk (and we're avoiding all other animal milk)
eggs
wheat (and rye, possibly barley too)
sesame
lentils
peas
chickpeas
kidney beans
almonds (and probably other nuts too)

What sort of reactions have you noticed? Are they all severe?

OHforDUCKScake · 11/08/2012 11:07

Hi garlic lover no they arent severe but they grow in severity the more times I give an offending item. (hes anaphylactic to milk, eggs, nuts and raw potato)

For example he started getting a slight red mark round his mouth after eating sweetcorn but too slight to really know what was happening (he was fine with it before) then a few times more the rash would be worse then the last time he ate sweetcorn his face, hands and wrists were covered in hives. Thats the same reaction he has to all the other foods too (the ones hes not anaphylactic to).

Im going to leave it 2-3 months and try to slowly re introduce sweetcorn and the others if its successful. But tbh by then he'll have a bunch more new allergies so perhaps not.

greenbananas · 11/08/2012 13:51

DUCKScake fish bolognaise sounds lovely. Hope you get some joy at Guys hospital. I've heard that they are very good (we are in a rural backwater and nowhere near though).

I would be cautious about reintroducing sweetcorn until you have spoken to a specialist. Lots of hives might possibly indicate the risk of a more serious reaction next time (this is what happened with DS and lentils/peas). DS had a similar reaction to sweetcorn ages ago and I have still not got around to trying it again...

It is so frustrating when you feel there is nothing left to eat. Sad I tend to cook the same few things over and over again - tuna pie with hidden veg is one of my current favourites.

OHforDUCKScake · 11/08/2012 16:56

Tuna pie? This sounds good, please could you give me your recipe? He loves tuna.

OP posts:
greenbananas · 11/08/2012 19:05

Tuna pie filling:
3 cans tuna (drained of all the oil)
about half a small tub "tofutti" (soya cream cheese-like stuff)
pureed carrot (other pureed veg works okay as well)

If I haven't got any tofutti, I make a small amount of very thick white sauce (with vitalite and soya milk) and use that instead.

Can make pastry using vitalite or Pure margarine, but also worth knowing that Jus-Rol ready made pastry is usually dairy free. If no time to cook pastry, same mix works well in toasted sandwiches.

It's not exactly gourmet food but DS loves it and at least I have found something nutritious that he will eat!!

How do you make your fish bolognaise??

freefrommum · 11/08/2012 19:21

DS (5) anaphylactic to:
milk
wheat
eggs
nuts (not sure which ones yet)

OHforDUCKScake · 11/08/2012 20:20

Thank you.

Fish bolognese tasted bloody amazing, I highly reccomend it.

Very simply - I foil baked some cod and salmon, then popped it in a sauce pan with some Dolmio sauce. I put a pinch of brown sugar in too as it was a terny bit sharp that meat obviously takes away. It was very good.

OP posts:
greenbananas · 11/08/2012 20:24

Ooh, that sounds like the sort of easy and delicious recipe that I need - thank you!! I have some fish in the freezer... can't use Dolmio, but might fall back on the tomato puree and pureed carrot subsitute Smile

ggirl · 11/08/2012 20:26

ds 9
anaphylactic to
cashews
pistachio

cannot tolerate uncooked egg

recent whole body hives and wheezing to beansprouts and apples Hmm

Nuttyprofessor · 11/08/2012 20:37

DS11. Anaphylact to cashews and pistachios.

JackJacksmummy · 11/08/2012 20:42

Dd is allergic to peanuts, ds1 used to be allergic to cows milk but has outgrown it. Now has hayfever and asthmatic. Ds2 is allergic to plasters.

vvviola · 12/08/2012 07:45

DD2 is 11 months and allergic to dairy, egg & peanuts. Until last week only the dairy was proven from experience the others from skin prick tests. Then we had a nasty experience with an egg-free cake that wasn't. Reaction was so fast that we are waiting for a referral to allergy clinic.

I suspect she may react to chickpea too, so I'm keeping her off it for the moment (and can't decide whether it should apply to me too as I'm still breastfeeding & egg and dairy seem to affect her if I have them)
