Scratching, sleepless nights

My ds has eczema, keeps me up all night scratching. Feel so sorry for him :(. He is constantly creamed to within an inch of his life and even though I watch what he eats he is still up at night scratching. Any ideas ladies? He has got cuts all over his arms and ankles from the scratching and he gets so frustrated when I ask him to stop.

I have lived with Atopic Eczema all of my life and my 6yr old DD has it too .

How old is your Ds ? Could you ask your GP to prescribe an antihistamine for night time (depending on his age) also have you tried Aveeno moisturiser ? Is is very soothing on the skin when the skin is hot & itchy .

The itch from Eczema is unbearable , so be gentle with him :(

He is two, yes I am very gentle with him. I know what he is going trough because I've had it all my life. A lot of people are talking about this aveeno so I will give it a try. I got antihistamines but my HV told me they where the wrong ones and to stop using it

dustmite allergy?

got dustmite bedding etc?

my son is on daily antihistaimes every day, not just for his skin but mainly for his other reactions to environmental allergies. A non sedative antihstamine taken at night will help after a week or two as it builds up in his system.
go back to your gp and ask for further help with antihistamine( HV arent docs btw) and ask about environmental allergies with them as well, if you havent already done so.

Is he enclosed in eczema clothing so that his hands are covered? Cotton Comforts (google them) do some great eczema suits, they are quite pricey but I tend to buy in the sales. Others have recommended scratch sleeves (google them) but I've never tried them.
I have exactly the same problem with my DD who is 4 and you have my sympathy. Asking her to stop is a no-go, it makes it worse as once she starts it seems she has to go through the process. We use a sedating anti-histamine intermittently (prescibed by Cons Dermatologist) but it doesn't stop her itching just helps her not to wake as fully. I am no resigned to being woken a few times a night but it is hard when it is every night.
We keep the room really cool and have a fan on some nights, she only has a sheet over her or even nothing (as the Cotton Comfort Suits are enough). No soft toys and total anti-mite bedding covers. We have taken the carpet up and have lino (which looks like laminate!).
I feel for you.

You have probably checked already it isn't washing powder? We've had 2 years of this with DS, I was obsessed with it being food related like his older brother and coudln't find the culprit... then got all clear in skin prick tests for IGE allergy. But the scratching continued... 10 days ago we zapped it with Elocon steroid - usually gives us about 3 days before it comes back. At the same time I started putting all his clothes, pjs and sheets through with just washing eco-balls in the machine, no detergent. So far very little return of the eczema and he's sleeping through (well to 5.30 which is good enough for me...). It could just be a good patch and too early to say for definite whether it was the powder, but very exciting (although then I have to beat my self up over not realising this earlier and being too food obsessed!).

We've done all the dust mite stuff too but that was for older DS's asthma and is not a new thing for us, didn't seem to help DS2 eczema.

I imagine you've thought of these though - I send sympathies about the nights as have spent too many lying in bed with DS2 with a pot of moisturiser next to the pillow just rubbing it in until he settles. The distress is not nice to see.
