Sorry I know there's loads, and I have read loads, but I have a few possibly stupid questions. I just had my dx this lunchtime, so this is v new for me.

OK, so I stopped by the shop on leaving the doctors to get lunch for ds's - I got a couple of bread rolls. So here are the possibly stupid questions - can I handle bread and wheat? Is it ok to have it in the house and the dc eat it ?(Our breakfast table is always covered in loads of crumbs) Is this stupid?

I know I need to get them tested too (I think - is that right?)

I'm not in UK, but know here s not so gf friendly as in UK. Is making homemade gf bread easy? Should I be rushing out to buy a bread maker? Or am I better off just switching to complete alternatives rather than imitations. WHat are the alternatives.

OMG, what to I eat now! I'm starving but can't face food. But felt v hard done by and suddenly craving croissants and Brezen in the shop.

This is such a helpful thread!! A nutritionist strongly suspects that I have coeliac and having moved on to the new diet a week ago, I feel so much better. I presume i can't now have the confirming blood test without going back on to gluten for 6 weeks?? I didn't think - so silly.

DH is very very very skeptical of food intolerances and it's proving very frustrating when he says that a bit of whatever it is / cross contamination will be fine, while he gives me a withering look. Not sure how to handle that! I'm sounding like an obsessed woman at home because there are 5 of us and DS and now myself have a list of illegal foods. Cooking is a nightmare as DS and I aren't exactly the same.

Hi ttree - the people here are brilliant aren't they. Sorry to hear about your problems :(

That's right, as far as I understand it, you need to be eating gluten for 6 weeks in order to be tested. If it is coeliac, it's an autoimmune disease with potentially very serious consequences. My dh has been amazingly supportive. Sorry to hear yours isn't. I guess before you get too carried away at home it would be better to be properly tested? Or are you happy to just change the diet without the official dx? (an official dx would surely help with your dh though)

I find cooking a nightmare, because I hate cooking anyway, but I have to juggle my coeliac, ds is vegetarian, dd is fructose and lactose intolerant and other ds is v. v. fussy, oh and other ds is total carnivore. Mealtime is a nightmare for me :(

All 4 dc tested negative in their coeliac bloodtest. I should be happy, but dd has so may symptoms I can't help but doubt it. When I had my blood test I had to be fasting overnight before hand. The kids all had breakfast right before theirs. Is this ok does anyone know?

tkband, hope you enjoyed your holiday? Do you feel confident eating out? I really don't trust anyone to make me food other than my dh. It's hidden in so mny things, or could be cooked in contaminated oil or pans, or prepared on surfaces etc. I just don't feel brave enough for all the huge possibilities of others messing up.
