Aveeno skin relief lotion - Good for ezcema?

Hi, my 16mo boy has a mixture of eczema and allergies. His skin on hot days gets quite dry and itchy. A couple of friends had suggested Aveeno cream as it's very good for eczema. Despite he has been prescribed (and currently has on his skin) aqueous cream, his skin is incredibly dry and he's scratching a lot. I put a bit on and he stopped scratching. However, I wanted to hear some reviews.

Does anybody know how good this cream is?

Thanks

aVEENO is wonderful, i am an adult eczema sufferer and it really helps, i get it on prescription from the DR's two bottles at a time and the bath oil too so its well worth asking, it won't cure it but it will make it a lot more bearable

hope that helps and you little boy gets some relief soon x

It has really fixed my DS who has had eczema from birth (and I use it too now!). I think it is fab. The only thing that really works is to tie up a big handful of porridge oats into a muslin and soak it in the bath water until all the white stuff comes out. Oatty magicness.

I find that the aqueous cream made up on prescription for my son, works the best. I also use Aveeno for him, and it's ok, but not the magic cure that everyone seems to imply.

I'm a big fan of Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Cream which we have to buy online - not available otherwise in the UK - or brought over for us from US by anyone who's traveling. It's pricey but so much better on my DDs eczema than diprobase which is what the dermatologist prescribed that we've had to accept the hit... maybe it works out evenly with all the money we'll save on junk food because of her allergies ;-)

It's not a miracle cream I agree and she still flares up esp in the heat and needs hydrocortisone for those times but it is noticeably better on her - everyone's different I guess :)

Yes Aveeno works for DS but i know it doesnt work for everyone, its certainly not some kind of miracle cure, just try it. We started off with Aqueous, then double base, then finally settled on Aveeno, ds has been using for 6 yrs now and his skin is clear. Lets know how you get on.

Please be careful! I have bad eczema and it made it so much worse!! Not sure if I'm just a freak though...!

Hmmm, I was bought Aveeno when DD started developing eczema and it did nothing for her body and made her face worse.

After a visit to the doctors, she was prescribed Oilatum for the bath and Doublebase as a cream for after the bath. Her face is now smooth and peachy and she has very few, very small, round eczema patches on her chest which come and go. Much improved.

Paula30CWR · 26/07/2012 21:22

Thanks! Well, he was prescribed (a year ago), hydrocortisone, double base, aqueous cream, diprobase... nothing happened. It wasn't until we ended up in a walk-in centre at St George's Hospital, that the A&E doctor said that aqueous cream should be applied before the bath. It made such a massive difference on his skin. They also prescribed Bethnovate - similar to hydrocortisone but milder.

Now, with the heat, his rashes have flared up and noticed that despite we put loads of aqueous cream, his skin is very dry and itchy. So, a friend of mine, whose son has had eczema, said that Aveeno was great so i gave it a try.

Of course I will talk my GP but I just thought I would give it a try.

Aqueous cream should be used as a soap replacement and not a cream.
My GP says avoid Aveeno
Dermol is fab. It includes an anti microbial and stops the itch.

Everyone's skin is different. I have had skin problems since I was a toddler-
Eczema dermatitis and a few other strange things. I am now on an immuno suppressant pill.
There isn't a cream lotion or therapy I haven't had at some time or another.
Even some if the moisturising therapeutic creams have made my skin worse . Some have helped. It has taken years to find one that doesn't eventually make my poor skin worse .
Diprobase e45 dermol double base etc are all ok. They are moisturisers and help keep skin hydrated.
However Aveeno is the one I now use. It has a soothing effect that the others don't - which i suppose is the oats. What it feels like is I can forget about my skin with Aveeno . With the others I am still conscious of the dry itch which is the bit that drives you crazy.
Someone else may find the complete opposite. I have also used A- Derm which is similar and has the soothing property of oats too.
Good luck . It is about commitment I'm afraid. Keep moisturising and it will improve. Keep the faithGrin
