Medic alert braclets and benifits

Not sure if anyone else is aware, but if you are on certain benifits (I know Income support is on their list) you can get the cost of a braclet covered by medic alert. I only phoned up to see what the membership would be for someone on benifits, and was told that they would provide a kids sports band or the stainless steel bracelet for dd1 free of charge. hth someone.

That's brilliant. I had to pay for ds's but I was pleased that it was cheaper to buy one for a child than an adult.

that's great. And that reminds me I must order mine, especially as I will be going into hospital and don't want any mistakes to be made with my medication

you have to phone them up with all your details (or child's details) GPs, consultant etc. and you have to sent them copy of your prove of benifit.

That is great!! On a slight spin off from this thread, when do you think a child NEEDS to get a medic alert braclet (age wise)?? Obviously at 20 months, ds is never far from my side as I am a SAHM. I really don't want to get him a medic alert bracelet now and have him outgrow all of his allergies (hopefully!!) before he starts nursery. . . .

Having said that, he may still need one for his heart, but that is another story :o

ds has just started wearing his ,he's 3.5yrs.

He attends nursery, and it makes people aware and talk to him about his allergies which is a good thing imo

Ds got his at 2.5 and thinks it's fab. I would say the sooner the better, I know it's morbid but I imagined him surviving a car crash only to be killed when they gave him a cake in hospital.

Also people see the wrist band one (it's summer here so much more obvious) and don't offer him all manner of crap - so that's an added benefit.

dd3 may need to have one, as she has egg allergy, atm is too young, but she will be allergy tested.

dh had one, he'll need a new one post transplant, and it will be a long list in his details, as he is now allergic to more medications than before.

sparklymieow · 06/03/2006 13:06

just ordered dd1's one, have to send them a copy of my income support letter.

MY DD is 3.3 I want her to have a bracelet. Where is a good place that does one for tiny wrists?
