Reintroduction of egg.

After a negative skin prick test we began reintroducing egg to ds's diet by giving him a small crumb of cake at 4.30 yesterday afternoon as per the hospitals instructions.
He woke up with the runs this morning and then refused his lunch and vomited the juice he had this morning (all over the bar area of my health club bless him!).

I'm trying to figure out if his tummy is upset cause of the egg or if it's a bug. Any advice or experience wld be apprecited TIA x

I'd err on teh sdie of caution and presume it was the egg.
What was his reaction to egg previously?
Also how old is he now and how long did you cut it out for?

foxinsocks · 03/03/2006 17:31

there's loads of bugs about at the mo

I'd be tempted to put the reintroduction on hold for another week or so because if it is a tummy bug, you don't want to be reintroducing foods and if it was the egg, you need to have a clear space before you try again.

Did you notice any skin reaction when he ate the cake?

MY ds has also just been given the all clear for cooked egg.He felt a bit ill when he had the food challenge in the hospital but no definite physical symptoms. Was the egg cooked for atleast 20 mins. That's the guidance we were given.

Thanks for your response Piffle.
He had an anphalactic(sp) reaction the first time when he was 9mnths old, followed by the runs. He's now nearly 2. It's also the 1st time he's ever been grown up sick.
I want to assume it's the egg to be honest. It's no problem to wait another year before trying again and an egg free diet isn't so bad once you are used to what they can and can't have. His consultant said we were very lucky to get a neg result so young.

we had our first unofficial negative in the last year (dd is 5)

yes, you might as well play it safe and try again another time!

calvemjoe · 03/03/2006 17:36

Must have taken me ages to type that!
He had no skin reaction. The egg was in a fairy cake following the one egg recipie the hospital gave me. He was supposed to have a small crunb, a large crumb, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/4 and 1/2 with 48 hours between each one to allow for delayed reaction. He just had the small crumb yesterday

TBH I'd leave it well alone for another year
DD has an egg allergy she came out in skin reaction and runs later...
WE were advised to keep her off all egg until her 3rd birthday then reintroduce slowly in baked goods (as you have done)
DD has had no reaction to cooked egg she can even eat a boiled egg now.
But we had carbonara the other day made with raw eggs been tossed in at the end to lightly cook them to make the sauce..
DD was excluded from this meal but she did get hold of a bit of a plate when it was left unattended
She flamed up really bad and is now getting a facial rash eating almost anything :(

What do you mean by unofficial? do I sense an accidental poisoning? Wink

yes - poor dd

she stuck her finger in a bowl full of raw cake mixture - but no reaction so I was v pleased!

poor pifflet

bobbybobbobbingalong · 03/03/2006 17:47

Has he eaten everything that was in the cake minus the egg before?

If not it could have been anything.

calvemjoe · 03/03/2006 17:52

Yes he has, doesn't have much homemade stuff with flour in because my mum is intolerant to gluten and wheat but he has bread and things regurly so I'm guessing it's none of the other ingredients.
