Identifying the culprit

Hello,

My 2 yo DS is allergic to milk and also a bit to eggs. Every now and then he comes out in random hives and sometimes pukes right after eating.

The other day he ate a meal he has had lots of time before but had fresh strawberries for pudding (which he has also eaten lots before). He came out In a couple of hives then puked and was fine right after.

Could it be strawberries? Even if he hasn't had a reaction before? The next day he had strawberries at nursery and he was fine so it seems unlikely.

I just feel like there is something else he is allergic to but not sure what. That said he did have broad beans which he hasn't really had before but he just took them out of the skins and didn't actually eat any.

Sorry rambling now....any ideas?

I think you need to keep a detailed food diary to try to identify the possible culprit(s). You will need to make a note of everything DS eats and drinks plus notes on any symptoms/observations including eczema if he has it as this often worsens after exposure to allergens (and you might want to make notes on bowel movements too - sorry!). This will also be useful to show to dietician/consultant/GP etc.

yes it could be the strawberries. not an allergy as such , but for some allergic people they are highly sensitive to high histamine foods, as strawberries become a little over ripe the cells break down and release histamine.

other foods like hung game, blue cheese etc can be problematic.

Oh that's interesting, they were a little over ripe so maybe that is what it was.

Think you are right about food diary, we only see the allergy specialists once a year in December and would like an idea of what else he should be tested for.

Thanks for your help!
