DHs Issues with Heat Rash

Hi, Im wondering if anyone has any experience of this, or any suggestions for how to help.

My DH whenever we go abroad gets this really bad prickly heat/heat rash under his armpits and along his waist where his shorts would sit.

It gets really red and infammed, and becomes really itchy and irritating for him at night when he is trying to sleep. He seems to get this everytime we go somewhere hot, and it always appears even if he hasnt been swimming etc.

He is always careful to dry himself properly, and doesnt wear particularly tight clothing but it always seems to appear.

Are there any suggestions on what he can do to avoid this rash? Or the best thing to do when he does get it?

We have tried various creams for when he has it, but none really seem to help.

Should he take anti-histamines or anything like that?

Thanks for your help. We are going to Cyprus in Sept and I don't want him to be suffering for the whole 9 days.

I get heat rash/prickly heat on holiday and have to take anti-histamines every day while I'm away otherwise I get so itchy and uncomfortable. I would recommend that your DH starts taking anti-histamines (normal one-a-day hayfever tablets) a few days before you go on holiday so that they have time to get into his system and every day while he's away. I also use Anthisan anti-histamine cream on any bad patches and pure aloe vera gel (preferably kept in the fridge) as an all over aftersun (you can buy it in healthfood shops like Holland & Barratt). I would also recommend 100% cotton clothing and cool baths/showers after being in the sun.

Oo hadnt thought of aloe vera gel, thanks very much for your help.

It's such a pain for him, he loves going on holiday but dreads the rash! Smile

I know the feeling! I love the sun, always have but this problem only started a few years ago and can really ruin a holiday if I don't take the right medication. Good luck!
