Help! Could this be a non IgE reaction to milk challenge?

Any help would be appreciated. I am fairly up on IgE mediated allergies DS had CMPA and DD now nine months has an egg allergy but a complete novice with non IgE reactions - which we suspect my DD may have to dairy.

After discussing with her allegist, I am in the middle of introducing milk to her to test this out. She had had baked milk in bisucuits for a week with no problems and we had just move on to cooked milk at the weekend. She is now poorly - started with a cough, then vomited up a breastfeed (first time ever - she doesn't posset / vomit normally), then a temperature overnight and this morning and pretty loose poo this morning.

I am thinking that the temperature makes it unlikely that this is related to the dairy and more likely to be down to having started a mum and baby group and sucking lots of communal toys - yuk! but I'd really appreciate any thoughts from people with more experience of this as I am really unsure about what to do next.

My plan was to stop with the challenge for now anyway as (at least for IgE allergies) being unwell makes the body less able to cope with allergens and more likely to have a worse reaction... but what do I do once she's well? Go back to baked milk for a bit and then build up or carry on from where we'd got to? Or leave it for a few months before trying again?

how is baby now? was it a viral infection?

Thanks for asking. Still poorly and miserable - still has a temperature which comes down with calpol... off her food but BF more than usual. I'm thinking this can't be related to the milk... unless anyone has any ideas otherwise? Any thoughts about how to get going on milk challenge once she's well?

deffo poorly baby then.

does allergist suspect intol only allergies?

my daughter has developed intol recently, she is in her teens.

there is a rainbow of severity to intolerence as well as ige reactions. some vomit for ages after a small amount of milk others simply feel sick and feel rough with a itchy throat, my DD falls in to the latter group for milk and soya.

we had this confirmed by an immunologist that intolerence was the problem, so we have one child with ige allergies and one with intolerence.

for infants the cows milk protein is either a problem for stomach ,irritating valve at top of stomach or have pain when passing a stool, due entirely to cmp irritating the linning of the anus.

docs only get interested in spitty up babies that are unhappy, in pain ,who are not gaining weight or producing mucas nappies from poorly digested food. which is ther result of a poor food/stomach acid combo.

what symptoms led you to suspect the milk was the problem?

and are you totally milk free in your diet?

Thank you - that's really helpful :)

Initially we were told by the first Paed who saw her that because of my DS' history and her own eczema a CMPA was likely and I should cut milk out of my diet as I was still exclusively BF. We stuck to this while we waited to see the allergist and she didn't have dairy at all after weaning. Then when she reacted to accidental contact with egg, I decided that the recommendation to keep her off dairy was plucked out of thin air a bit, and that perhaps it was egg protein in my milk that was contributing to eczema pre-weaning... so decided to introduce dairy then... We were cautious and looked for the usual allergy signs we were familiar with - no hives, swelling or respiratory symptoms at all to skin contact, little teaspoon and then more... so I merrily started
giving her quite a bit of milk (too much too soon in hindsight probably)... Over the course of that week she developed really horrendous diarrhoea, really acidic smelling and explosive. Initially u ignored it but then twigged that it might have been related to the dairy and went back to dairy free (her and me).

The idea behind trying her on milk again now came from thinking that it's entirely possible that the diarrhoea was a coincidence and she might be fine... which is why it's so unfortunate that by coincidence she's ill again just as I'm trying her with milk again!!!

Sorry that's a crazy long message but it feels like a long and convoluted story... hopefully we'll get to an answer soon...

I'm thinking once she's back to her usual self I'll go back to cooked milk and carry on where we left off...
