My ds is 18 months he was diagnosed with milk intolerance at 8 wks old as he wouldn't gain weight and had terrible diahorrea, he had thrush in his mouth as a small baby but with treatment cleared up, for the last 4 months he has had it recurring, clears up with treatment then 1 week later comes back, now doc Is saying it might not be thrush , it might be caused by small amounts of cows milk, he occasionally steals something off his sisters plate , I thought he had grown out of milk intolerance and was just waiting on dietician to tell us to slowly change back but now I'm not sure,
I'd heard that high sugar and alot of soya can cause oral thrush , he has soya yogurts and desserts which are full of sugar, anyone else had any experience of this ?

What are you using to get rid of the thrush? Nystan? Oral Daktarin gel?

Are you breastfeeding? If you are, are you treating your self?

My 13 month old had it, kept treating it with Nystan which took ages to go then it'd come back for two reasons. I wasnt treating myself (I had it on my nipple but there was no visual evidence of it) and Nystan wouldnt fully treat it.

Then the doctor gave us Daktarin oral gel and that blasted it in two days.

I'll always ask for that in future now.

Thanks , I'm not breastfeeding, we have had nystatin and daktarin, the daktarin definetly works best, it seems to just be going away as the treatment is ending though and the doc won't give a longer dose, iv tried lots of things like new teats on bottles etc, x

IME thrush can be very difficult to shift and I was advised to keep on treating my DS for about a week after symptoms had disappeared. Otherwise it would just come back with a vengeance. Even if your doc won't prescribe Daktarin oral gel you can still get it over the counter.
Presumably your DS hasn't had antibiotics or inhalers? These can cause thrush. I'm not sure about sugar: I don't think it causes thrush, but it does aggravate it once the infection has taken hold.
Don't know if it's any help, but baby probiotics really helped with my DS's oral and intestinal thrush. Optibac and Solgar sell special probiotics for babies and you can start with a small amount gradually building up to the recommended daily dose.
Colloidal silver, I've been told, also works, but I've never used it.

My son had antibiotics about 4 months ago, he has also been on probiotic that the dietician gave him for last 2 months, I think il go and buy daktarin today and make sure I have enough to use for a week after its dissapeared, that seems to b the problem, thanks for your reply x
