Coeliac, egg-allergic, vegetarian

What can I prepare for a coeliac, egg-allergic, vegetarian child at a barbecue? I know her mother will say not to prepare anything and that she will bring her own stuff, but I cannot bring myself to just leave a guest to fend for themselves.

Is there, at the very least, something she can toast over the BBQ? I do not want give the other children marshmallows to toast and leave her out.

there are a couple of things that you could easily add into your BBQ and people wouldn't even realise but maybe play about with some of tge settings and then altering tge recipe?

That's nice of you.

How about some vegetable kebabs? Thread chunks of veg (red peppers, courgette, onion etc.) on skewers. They can be toasted over the barbecue. They would need to be wrapped in silver foil so they don't come into contact with any gluten on the grill. Also grilled corn on the cob (on a silver-foil 'plate') or jacket potato wrapped (very tightly) in silver foil and cooked in the embers - but not with meat/gluten-stuff dripping down from the grill above it. Veggie and gluten-free sausages include Sainsburys Vegetarian Glamorgan Leek & Cheese Sausages and Tesco Vegetarian Leek & Cheese Sausages.

Own-brand crisps are often gluten-free - I know Waitrose ones are.

The mother will be very worried about cross-contamination (I have coeliac children and I worry in situations like this) which is probably why she's insistent she will bring her own food. So, anything you're going to make for the girl, best to talk it all through with the mum beforehand, and allow the mum to be in charge of preparing/dishing up (as it only takes someone to put the gluten-free food on a plate with some crumbs on it or touching some crisps/sausages etc for it to be contaminated).

Some marshmallows are gluten-free so safe for coeliac (I don't know whether they contain eggs or not) - you could make sure the marshmallows you get are gluten free ones - Coeliac Society directory (the bible of gluten free) lists safe marshmallows as -
Tescos own-brand marshmallows
Morrisons own-brand no-added-sugar marshmallows and mini-marshmallows
Sainsburys own-brand marshmallows

Again, she will have to be careful her marshmallow and stick don't touch the barbecue grill.

You are a very nice hostess! :)

Marshmallows are made of ground up bones-- not veggie, I'm afraid.
My kids love to toast halloumi on the end of a stick; they also enjoy toasting apple pieces. You can marinate tofu and grill that (delicious).

gosh, didn't realise that clara!
