Best creams for patchy dry (maybe mild eczema) in 18 month old?

Hi

I've been using oilatum on the patches on DS's body. It seems to be getting worse not better. He isn't itching, and the doctor just says it's dry skin and wasn't concerned.

But I'd like to try other stuff - not medicated if possible

What's out there that's any good?

And should I start to think about his diet although nothing has changed?

Thanks

Diprobase is great. Don't bathe him too often. Avoid perfumed stuff and think about what you wash clothes in.
Someone will be over in a bit to explain how to use oats in a bath (can't remember!)

I've used diprobase - and it worked really well. Got it through the direct medicine scheme at pharmacist so got it free without a visit to GP (gotta love Scottish NHS!)

Diprobase is medicated though - why are you wanting to avoid?

Thanks for that info - really helpful. Will store and use if in a couple of week's I see no progress

Have nothing against medicated products - but my first stop is to always try other stuff first. Just the way I am!

How old is your DS? When mine was only 2-3 months old and first started showing signs of eczema I made the mistake of using 'natural' creams which contained almond and sesame oils. I later learned that children can become allergic to things to which they have been exposed through the skin if they had eczema in the early months. And DS is now severely allergic to sesame and is also allergic to almonds. I feel absolutely terrible about it and now only use creams we get on prescription such as Balneum or Hydromol or Aveeno, which don't contain common allergens.

Sorry, just realised you put DS's age in the thread title! So my worry doesn't apply in this case.
