Piriteze - Advice please!

Hello, My 18 month old DS has impetigo and was scratching and scratching his poor face, so I gave him a 3 to 4 ml dose of piriton and put him back down in his cot. I then re-read the label on the bottle and it said it was 'piriteze' not piriton and that it shouldn't be used for children under 6. Am now incredibly worried. Anyone out there that can reassure me?

Ring NHS direct for advice.

Thanks - have done so. Waiting for them to call back. Thanks

Just to reassure a bit, a lot of medication has been reclassified for over 6 and even 8, like Medised which I occasionally used on dc1 & 2, I now can't use on dc3.

Of course if you are worried talk to NHS direct. I suspect the dosage would have to be much higher to be a cause for concern.

Hope they can reassure you Smile

My ds was prescribed this from the age of 2 and now at the age of 7 he takes the adult dose daily and can take double this if necessary - I think there might be some 'wiggle room' in the prescribing! I'm sure he'll be fine and I hope someone phones you soon. :)

Thank you Panda! That makes me feel so much better! Thanks for replying.

No problem, let us know the outcome.

Actually just checked our bottle (we use Benedryl but it's the same thing) and it says not recommended for children under 2 but it doesn't say DON'T use it.

Thanks panda! The nhs direct nurse finally called me back at 4am! And after asking me lots of questions said she didn't think I needed to worry. Big relief! Won't be making that mistake again. Thank you for all your kind advice. Phew!
