gluten free specialist restaurants london

I am trying to arrange a special birthday dinner for a friend who is living on a gluten free diet. I would like her to have a free, or at least large choice. But I don't really know where to begin.

Any suggestions for central London or south kensington areas would be really appreciated.

Thanks

There has to be something out there for the gluten free in the world?

I don't know about specialist restaurants but lots of the Italian chains offer gluten free pasta these days eg Bella Italia, Zizzi's, Ask.

This www.glutenfreemrsd.com/gluten-free-london-uk gives some dinner and afternoon tea options.

Carluttios, not spelt right! Have a seperate luten free menu, nice Italien food, go there all the time, one in Covent garden, othr one I know is in Earlsfield, TGIF covent Garden also very good and the Mexician place at the side of M&S, not Neal street the alley at the left, if that makes sense.

Carluccios sounds good. I love Italian. Is it a bit nicer than your average chain like zizzis?

Hi there

I was at an allergy support group in Barnes, SW London recently and one of the mums there co-owned the Locale restaurants and she mentioned that they offer a Gluten Free Menu. This mum had to avoid gluten for her DC and she said that if you ask they do accomodate this.

This is a link to their site and there are a few of them around london.

I hope this helps.

Cotto on Westminster Bridge Road.

I haven't been there, but I have been told it has a coeliac proprietor and has an entire, huge gluten-free menu. I think you have to tell them when you book that you want the g-f menu so they can make sure it's available.

What a nice friend you are :)

Meh I am a pretty orrible friend really. But a very special occasion deserves at least some thought.

Where better than mumsnet to get some great recommendations!

A second vote for Cotto. I took my GF friend there when she came to stay and she was beside herself at the number of things she could eat. The food (Italian) is pretty good. Venue isn't swanky but they're very friendly (high-fived my mate for being coeliac). They asked how many of us were GF when I rang to book - so they know how much pizza dough to make that day.

Yes Cottos have a good selection. They do pizza too which is pretty unusual.

I'm finding lots of places can now cater for coeliacs if I ring ahead, so I may be worth choosing somewhere & calling them? Obviously you can eat everything on the menu but I can usually have a few thing Smile

We went to carluccios and it was lovely. I have passed the rest of the ideas onto my friend so she has a few more choices of places to go. So a big thank you to everyone.
