I Apologise for the length of this but it wouldnt make sense otherwise -
Right so my Little boy was out in the garden the other day all wrapped up wellies etc & when he came in a i noticed a few spots on his legs but thought it may be the start of Chicken pox , Few hours later as i were about to bathe him i noticed his entire lower half of his body was covered in these spots now & he also he had them in his mouth, I managed to get him in to the doctors pretty quick as he is already Asthmatic and i were concerned about it affecting his breathing Anywho Doctor said he is Allergic to grass and gave me some paracetamol for the pain (spots in his mouth) , he didnt give me any cream or much advice apart from try and keep him away from grass .
Now i have told my little boy to be careful if he plays on the grass as it will make him Ill again & so my little one is now to scared to play on the grass & it hasnt helped that his Nursery Teacher has told him to stay off the grass at School , He understands about being Ill quite well due to being Asthmatic since birth , but since the whole grass thing started (monday) his behaviour has completely changed and he is really acting out & i know it is because he is scared & confused I just need to be able to help him somehow & i dont know how i can or anything about Grass Allergy .
I really need some Advice as i feel like a complete failure Sad

your child simply needs a daily non sedative antihistamine. this is something your gp should have given you. however you can buy some yourself without a prescription.

there is no need to restrict your childs life by not being able to play outside.
there are sensible steps you can take to reduce exposure, but not have such a huge impact on normal life.

is asthma well controlled during this season of grass pollen?
does he have ezcema that well controlled?

if he flares up like this again give stronger antihistamine, and get him to shower off the pollen.

Thansk for reply i did get some over the counter medicine (Piriton) , Asthma is well controlled & he doesnt have eczema & im not stopping him from playing on the grass he is too scared to as i encourage him to have an active life despite being Asthmatic & the pollen managed to get on his body despite having long clothes on (trousers, coat etc) which is whats worrying me

Thanks Eragon

Hi. Just read your post with interest. My dd is nine and this time every year she gets a raised red itchy rash on any exposed skin eg hands, arms, legs and throat area. Is this where your ds had it and was it very itchy? I have put it down to pollen too but she gets upset and so drowsy on the anti-histamine. Just really wanted to empathize as we are suffering too. Smile

Piriton is a good anti histamine but can have a sedative effect. As Eragon said, you need to ask your GP for a non sedating antihistamine. These last longer that Piriton too and are usually taken once a day.

With my DD, she has NeoClarityn which is prescribed and I'm sure with her, the longer she is on it, the better it works. She has hayfever and we have been advised to give it to her everyday through the hayfever season.

Your GP should have given you something but I think there are other over the counter antihistamines like Piriteze for children and Benadryl for children that contain cetirizine which is another longer lasting, non sedating one.

Take care

Had the grass just been cut?

My DSIS reacts badly to freshly cut grass, but is fine if it's been done a couple of days before.

Xanniiismypanda · 21/05/2012 12:47

The Grass was in the Process of being cut but i cant understand how it did get on him as he had Jogging bottoms on and Wellies and the Spots were all over his feet and lower half of his body but none on his torso , just his hands and his mouth & the Piriton doesnt make him drowsy in the slightest oh and it doesnt seem that spots are itchy either
Thanks everybody

Just wanted to add that my son who is now 5 started developing hives when he was 2 from grass pollen. Not sure if this is what you are describing. He didn't have to be actually in contact with the grass for him to have a reaction. I think this is the way his body reacts from breathing in the pollen. He went on to develop very severe hayfever that needs daily antihistimines, nasal sprays etc but has started a desensitzation programme at St Thomas' this year so we hope this may help.

Not sure if it is hives as it doesnt seem to be itchy , was just spots everywhere
thanks

My son's hives are never itchy and don't seem to bother him.

Hi experiencing something similar with my 4 year old. This has only started a month ago. How did you get on? Any help or advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ☺
