You may remember the shite I had with the infants.

I have reported here in threads before about how wonderful the juniors has been since DS started in September.

Well I forgot to give DS his cetirizine this morning (not the best day with the pollen count being so high!) so rang the school and told them and asked if they could give him 5ml of chlorphenamine (his emergency med) just to be on the safe side. (very difficult for me to leave a classroom and go home and then to his school with medicine and then back to work!)

They were very happy to do this and didn't quibble.

So the office staff are getting cake tomorrow Grin

I like good news threads too!

So pleased that the school are continuing to be so supportive.

Gives me hope that all will be well with DD when she starts f/t school in September. I get butterflies just thinking about it!

It is so lovely to hear good news, so happy for you after all your previous troubles.
By the way our consultant recommends using cetirizene over chlorphenamine for emergencies too because it's longer acting and so you're less likely to get the second allergic response 4-6 hrs later with it.

That is good news, thanks for sharing. I have to say that my DS's school have been great so far too. He started in September and I was sooooo worried but they really have been fantastic.

ChocaMum that's interesting about cetirizine. Is it available as a medicine like chlorphenamine? I've only ever seen the tablets and don't think I could get DS to swallow one of those plus all the ones I've seen contain lactose so no good for DS anyway.

ChocaMum · 18/05/2012 05:05

freefrom yes it's available as a liquid just like piriton is, you can buy it as children's piriteze or children's Benadryl. It's 5ml and lasts for one day.
The label will say not suitable for under 6 yr olds, but that's what they have to say. Like calpol only suitable from 3 months when you can give it from newborn.
We buy ours too because our GP's want to still give us chlorphenamine even though the consultant has requested cetirizene.

My DS takes ceterizine in liquid form - 10 ml a day. It's prescibed and the GP has never questioned how much AH I request!!

I'm glad your GP has been non obstructive at least'

freefrommum · 18/05/2012 13:15

Thanks for the info. Might buy a bottle (as long as it doesn't contain lactose like the tablets!).

ChocaMum · 18/05/2012 14:07

Syrup is lactose free. Tablets are annoying anyway!

freefrommum · 18/05/2012 14:10

Great, thanks ChocaMum. This is why I love these threads, you pick up so many useful tips!

ChocaMum · 18/05/2012 14:59

Completely agree, I've picked up more information here that helped me massively when dd was frost diagnosed, and still helping me loads now.
