Has anyone had a urine test to test for dairy/lactose intolerance?

That's it really. DS is 3mnths and I suspect she has some sort of intolerance with milk. The doctor has asked me to provide a urine sample so that they can do some tests. I know that lactose intolerance can be check by doing a stool acid test and am wondering with the GP is confused?

Can't help, I'm afraid. I had a hydrogen breath test, but that will be out of the question for a little 'un.
Maybe there is some sort of protein in urine that shows up if milk is not being digested properly.( That's a wild guess, by the way, as I have absolutely no medical knowledge!)

If you google "dairy intolerance" there is quite a lot of information on the internet about the different sorts of intolerance (genuine allergy (rare), lactose intolerance, milk protein intolerance, inability to digest cows milk fat)

I cant believe that all of the above could be tested with a urine sample.

btw, Im not medically qualified, but I am dairy intolerant.

Lactose intolerance, from what I know, is generally a problem for people over 7, not babies. Babies tend to have cow's milk protein allergies, sometimes, but these tend (again, from what I know) to be quite severe.

Some babies can get it although I am not sure how widespread it is: I have it, as do two of my DS's and I am certain it must be genetic. The same two sons also have eczma (like me) and there are other medical issues we may share, dependant on tests ds3 is yet too young for.

our daughter had a reducing substance test...but it was a stool sample...none of her tests have invovled urine
