think it may have been the bean shoots in the stir fry

ate dinner , then went outside to play

came back within 10 mins clutching his throat saying he felt ill
he was panicking
skin was flushed / lips swollen and he was wheezing

jesus it was scary

he hasn't had a reaction since he was 2!!!!!

stick with the piriton and let the GP know first thing. DD has a severe allergy to peanuts....its scary.

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/05/2012 20:15

ggirl · 08/05/2012 20:16

Blimy how scary. Are you ok

ggirl · 08/05/2012 20:24

yes am fine thanks

scary as it was it was quite a useful lesson for ds to know what it feels like to have a reaction
the hospital are planning to induce a reaction before he goes to big school to teach him what to watch out for..may not need to now?

SinicalSanta · 08/05/2012 20:34

Can I ask what are you supposed to the first time? I wouldn't have piriton etc the house - I'd just panic
.
Glad your DS is ok ggirl - how are you?

mumat39 · 08/05/2012 20:42

Gosh - that sounds SO scary!

So glad you're both ok and that the piriton and ventolin worked. If you don't have epipens I hope your GP prescribes you some.

Hope he has a good night and that the Piriton keeps things under control.

Big Hugs to you both. xxx

thanks
we have epipens
very nearly used one
he's looking a bit more of a normal colour now

bean sprouts..would thay possibly be contaminated with cashews or pistachios?
or could he be allergic to the sprouts themselves?

OP posts:
ggirl · 08/05/2012 20:55

SinicalSanta -yes piriton is very useful to have in the house
it's fast acting

OP posts:
mumat39 · 08/05/2012 21:12

bean sprouts are legumes and it is possible to be allergic to them. Other examples of legumes are Peanuts and Soya. I think if you're allergic to one of them then it is possible to also be allergic to others.

ggirl · 08/05/2012 22:07

he's not allergic to peanuts or soya
wonder if they were contaminated?

tinytalker · 08/05/2012 23:38

What oil did you use?

ggirl · 09/05/2012 07:35

sainsburys ground nut which we've used lots before and

sesame oil also used before , he's been tested for sesame allergy and is clear...?

Hello ggirl,

Hope you're well. How is your DS today? Did he have a good night?

Hope you're both well.

ggirl · 09/05/2012 22:22

he's fine today thanks
I gave him some more piriton at 11pm last night and then some cetirizine before school
his skin is back to normal

It's been a good lesson to us all as we had become quite complacent about taking his pen out etc.

He's talked about being ready to learn how to give the epipen to himself .

His friend that was with him when he became unwell was so good and we chatted to him today to go over the symptoms again so they would know what to look out for. I think they , well all of us are a bit traumatised by it but thankful it's ended well and have learnt a valuable lesson

Thanks for asking Smile

I've been thinking about you all day so am so pleased that he's ok. I hope you are too.

It's great that he has a good friend also looking out for him, as that must make it a teensy weensy bit easier for you as he gets older and more independent.
