Questions about wasp/bee stings

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether DC with severe food allergies are likely to also be allergic to wasp and/or bee stings? As we approach summer, I become increasingly anxious about it.

Is this something they can test via RAST?

This was something I've always been a worried about too. DS was stung once about 2 years ago and was fine so I thought phew! Then somebody pointed out that you don't tend to react to the first ever sting, it's the subsequent stings that could lead to a reaction so now I'm back to square one!

DS has multi food allergies and environmental allegies. I am not sure if he has every been stung by a bee or wasp but has had some nasty reactions to mosquitos ie bite swelling up, but nothing else affected.

Good grief - like you've not got enough going on Babybarrister, without addinga jellyfish sting into the mix!

Thanks for all your replies. If he gets stung, I'll be sure and report back in the name of research Grin.

I asked our consultant about this, he seemed to think that there wasn't any increased risk. He also pointed out that we (and most of you!) are carrying piriton and epipens anyway, so we're already covered Hmm

Very true nellymoo!

Thanks nellymoo. Good to hear they don't think there's an increased risk.

I've always been told they're totally separate things. Whenever we've been asked about family history I've mentioned that my brother was allergic to bee stings, but they are always totally uninterested and want to know about DH's atopic family members with eczema and asthma instead.
