allergic reaction to wet wipes

DD (5) has just spent the afternoon with a school friend. She is severely allergic to dairy and possibly allergic to peanuts so I left the friend's mum with a supply of 'safe' biscuits and drinks and her piriton and epipen.

they were doing some crafty thing and DD got glitter on her arm so the mum wiped her down with a baby wipe. Almost straight away she came up in an itchy rash of raised white lumps - something that has never happened with baby wipes before. The mum gave piriton and the rash went although 3 hours later DD still has raised red marks where I guess the lumps had been.

I have only used Pampers sensitive wipes (with no problems) but I think these were just standard Pampers wipes. I've looked at the ingredients for both but can't really see what might have caused the problem.

I've noticed on earlier threads when this topic has been raised, people have suggested that its the perfume in the wipes that cause the reaction and that by using home made wipes etc for nappy changes the problem would go away.

As we're past nappy changes now, I'm more concerned that there could be something in the wipes that DD could encounter elsewhere that would lead to another reaction.

any suggestions as to what it might have been?

No idea but DS had a similar thing happen with Johnsons fragranced wipes (on his 1st birthday!) Everywhere I had touched him with them went bright red and raised. He has no other allergies/intolerances so it was a surprise.
Will be keeping my eye on this thread for suggestions.

My sister is very allergic to baby wipes she reacts severely to anything with parabens and formaldhyde in, which is nearly every types of beauty product, shampoo, bubble bath, make-up, hairspray and even Calpol! Poor thing her list is endless!
Check the ingredients for these additives.

Could it be lanolin? It's a common allergen and is in a LOT of cosmetics/salves etc. If you're looking for some more wipes, we used water wipes on our little one and sometimes still do, although they're more expensive. (at home we just use cotton wool and water) www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=water+wipes&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=8235681649&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1378607536310698599&hvpone=

DD also reacts to fragranced baby wipes (and all baby wipes on her face only), we used cotton wool (large pads) and water for nappy changes until she was 2 (potty training) and a flannel with water on her face. I just take a bottle of water with me in the changing bag to use when out and about to wet small flannel/cotton wool pads for her face. At home I use a flannel for her face and hands if messy.

My DH wiped my DD's nose with a Johnstones wipe a few weeks ago and the skin around her nose went bright red exactly where it had touched her skin. Johnstones also seem to cause my DD to have a very raw bottom. Not sure why - I had very sensitive skin as a child too so I just put it down to that with my DD.

I think Johnson's baby lotion reacted to me as a baby too - it's not as kind to Baby's skin as they make out!
