flaky scalp - any advice?

My son's eczema cleared up a long time ago but his scalp is still very flaky. I'm quite sure its not nits but any casual observer might assume that! I've tried washing more often/ less often/ changing shampoo and can't relate any changes (varies from mild to terrible) to anything we've done. Anyone any advice?

don't think it is - it's not coloured/ big enough. Yes he does have very thick hair. I'm wondering if he has a problem with some of the ingredients in shampoo. I'll have a look at the T gel.

do you do warm oil and leave it for at least an hour preferably overnight

it is most probably cradle cap (which is quite similar to psoriasis just named differently in children) exacerbated by his excema

really the only thing you can do is overly moisturise and really rub the flakes away because its just his skin cells growing a little quicker than they should

he did have cradle cap very badly when younger but at school age I thought he was well past that Not sure he'd stand still for oil now but maybe I'll give it a try.

try and rub in baby oil (massage his scalp) if all else failed

Tatt, Anniemac may be right, are the flakes very bad??

tatt · 09/02/2006 07:36

depends how you define bad They are slightly bigger than "normal" dandruff but I've looked at pictures of psoriasis on the web and it's not that bad. But at time an are of several cms will seem to flake off gradually. It's more often in the summer but its bad now for some reason.

Sounds similar to what my ds occasionally suffers from. Not sure what it is, but we always find that 'The Body Shop Manuka shampoo for sensitive scalps' clears it up in a matter of days. Doesn't smell great, but does the trick and has added advantage of keeping nits at bay!!

my dd has might have eczema on her head. went to the doctors today and she gave her some cream for me to put on it to see if it works.

fimbles5, if that doesnt work is it ok to use that shampoo on a 6 month old?

Fimbles5 · 09/02/2006 18:09

blondie82 - Leave that question with me? I have a contact with Body Shop, and have e-mailed her to check. I have been using since my ds was about 2, so I am not sure but am in process of finding out.
