Nursery 'forgot' to tell me about Easter egg hunt

I am so angry. Time for my first thread...

dd(4.3) allergic to milk, egg, some nuts. Today I picked her up from nursery to find they had just been running about outside collecting little chocolate eggs. They then shared them out. So everyone had some except her.

They failed to tell me they had this planned. I asked if they had taken her epi-pens and was told they always have the first aid kit. And that they have an epipen in the kit. First I'd heard of that but okay.

It would've been so easy for me to bring her some safe chocolate instead of her having to wait til we got home. She had a few hives on her hands but was otherwise fine apart from sad not to get any chocolate! But I'm just so angry about it.

:(

Ah bless her, that's really off. I know our nursery would have been really on-the-ball about stuff like that. Even most parents now ask about allergies and will happily substitute one or all of the party treats if a friend has a significant allergy.

Hope you made them feel bad about it :-( Oh and maybe spot check the first aid kit? Say you just want to check that its the same as yours or something. If they're lying about that I'd be looking elsewhere for childcare.

That is really unfair. Your poor dd. My dd's school had a visit from the Easter bunny today but we were told about it last week so I could get something for her. I doubt they would have thought about it if I hasn't though. I would have a serious talk to the manger about it - it was a potentially dangerous activity for your dd and it is incredibly unfair on a child of that age to see others getting treats. Children with allergies miss out on a lot anyway, we should be able to rely on schools and nurseries to minimise this. (by the way, I made sure that the egg my dd got was bigger than the creme egg the others gotGrin)

Thanks for your replies. I had such a sore head last night from being so upset/angry.

I really have no idea how they managed to mess up so badly... I spoke (well ranted) to the manager on the phone yesterday so have made a formal complaint about it. She has been with them for nearly two years and though they aren't perfect they have generally been fantastic at including her and keeping her safe. Last month they had a whole 'chef' week and she was fully included in everything after a lot of careful planning :)

She doesn't have a treat box there at the moment - for birthdays etc they let me know in advance and she takes in something special (she has always taken her own snack). At the moment I'm struggling to understand at what point they remembered about her???? Looking forward to hearing back from the manager after they've investigated Hmm
