DS2 is nearly 5mths old and when a few weeks old was 'diagnosed' with reflux. I use the term diagnosed loosely as nothing was ever tested but this is what the doctors have suggested. The reflux was never severe but he was a lot more sick than most babies and he never seemed to be comfortable. He was put on gaviscon which seemed to work for a few weeks but then the symptoms started appearing again it was around this point I was beginning to stop bf and the doctor suggested we try ranitidine. He has been on this for about a month now and although initially he seemed better he has started getting sick again. I have on several occasions questioned the doctors about whether it could be a milk intollerance...several of my close family members (including my sister) have suffered with milk intollerances from birth and where put onto soya formula. Every doctor I have mentioned it to seems to think its unlikely though. DS2 has in the last couple of weeks developed eczema (one of the symptoms I know my sister has if she has cows milk!). I took DS2 to the doctors about the eczema and they have given us hydromol to put on twice a day and use at bath time. It seems to make it slightly better but poor little thing is still covered and screams the house down each time we put it on, I'm guessing it stings! :( I did consider swapping his milk to soya but having done some research on the web I have been reading a lot about the hormones in it and i am not so sure I want him having it! I am literally at my wits end with it all...I have been back and forth to the doctors that many times in pretty sure they think I'm completely mental...just don't know what to do now for the best. Any advice or thoughts on whether this could be an intollerance would be really appreciated. (please excuse any bad spelling/punctuation I'm typing on my phone and it's such a tiny keyboard)

Ok am looking for some advice please peeps....

To update you all...Little B has been back on the cows milk formula since tues morning at the request of the doctors. He immediately started to come back up in eczema and yesterday started to projectile vomit again. I called the doctors yesterday afternoon and requested that they give me a prescription to put him back onto the pregestimil formula. They gave me a prescription and booked me an appt on tues to see our usual doctor as he was out of the office. I took the prescription straight to the pharmacy who told me the milk would be ordered and available for collection after 11am today. I wasnt too concerned as I still had a bit of pregestimil left so started B back on it last night. However, when I got to the pharmacy this morning they said that the order hadn't arrived and won't be in now till monday Angry I have called all the local pharmacies i can think of and no one has any in stock. Sad

A very helpful man in boots pharmacy did suggest however that I could purchase another anti allergen formula that they have in stock (think it was nutragimen??) for £20 if i could travel the 3/4 hr to them. He did say tho that he has no idea of they are the same or even similar to pregestimil?! I have enough pregestimil to get us through tonight and tomo morning so he would only need about 3 bottles of it before the order should arrive at my local pharmacy.

I do also have a can of Wysoy at home already which I bought a while back but wasnt sure if it was safe as heard they have to be 6mths and B is only 5mths?! Not happy about it but as i dont have much choice I was thinking that I could possibly substitute the 3 feeds needed with this?

Have been stressing out about this all morning and am just wondering what everyone else would do...should I give him the soya or maybe try the formula that boots suggested? My only concern is for my little buba..i hate messing him around like this!' Any advice?

Same for me, switching to Boots Sensitive Skin washing powder made a big difference to us. My ds is sensitive to cow's milk but he can tolerate goats milk. He also has eczema flare ups with some washing powers. The one from boots made a huge difference.

Sorry, I am new to this and didnt notice there was a page 2. I feel so sorry for you and remember how I felt when I didnt know what to do and the doctors were not helping. Hopefully someone can give you some good advice. I ended up going to an alternative kind of doctor who deals with natural medicine because my gp and the hospital would not agree that my dc had a problem with cows milk. I eventually got to the point where I knew how to manage my ds's diet and skin when he was 18 months to 2 years. It can take a long time to figure it all out! Good luck x

Thanks for your response tracey! We have given him some soya today...wasn't entirely happy about it but cause of the issues with the pharmacist I didn't have much other choice! Sad should be able to pick up the pregestimil formula tomo morning tho and have got docs appt on tues...so fingers crossed we will get it all sorted soon!!! X
