Hi my 3 and a half year old was prescribed nasonex by the peadeatrician ,he is allergic to egg ,has asthma about 10 days after being prescribed he came out with a red itchy rash all over his body which with piriton has taken about a week to calm down and he now has red itchy patches behind his knees ,under his arms, his neck , will be going back to the docs . I am not saying nasonex is the cause but does anyone else have any experience of this spray, I am currently changing washing powder and also eliminating certain foods from his diet ,he has also woken up with pains in his legs . The prospectus for nasonex is a pretty scary read Shock(if your son comes into contact with anyone who has chicken pox or measles please inform the doctor as it can be life threatening !!also may stunt growth !!. Sorry if this is a rambling post just trying to eliminate things and would welcome anyone elses ideas

My 10yr old has been using this for a few months. He is allergic to various things but this is for house dust mite allergy that has caused him to have recurrent bouts of sinusitis, blocked nose, ear infections, etc.

Touch wood, since he has been on it, he has been great and no longer requires a daily anti-histamine.

I think the leaflet inside most medicines is worrying but as it is working for him, we will keep with it.

He has used montelukast in the past which stopped his blocked nose bu gave him terrible leg pains, so we stopped that.

Sounds like a trip to the GP is in order. Good luck!

Thanks fogie he is taking singulair as well so maybe that is causing the leg pains

My son has taking Nasonex on and off for months and was okay.

Fogie - my son had Nasonex and montelukast for chronic blocked nose. Your the first person I've come across who's had a child with the same problems. My son's problems were unrelated to hayfever or any known allergy, though.

Calyp - I sometimes think that patient information leaflets have too much information. If they did a similar leaflet for chocolate would we eat it - contains sugar, can causes obesity, can cause spots, etc!

Did he start the montelukast at the same time as the Nasonex OP?

I think it took a couple of weeks of being on the montelukast before the side effects kicked in. I stopped and started it a couple of times with the same result. Luckily, he was not on anything else new at the time, so it was easier to pinpoint what was the cause of the pain.

Pchick, did you get your son tested for allergies?

pchick · 17/02/2012 16:39

The montelukast was started later. i think he was on another antihistamine prior to using that one. If i recall, my gp wasn't keen on allergy testing. Did you suffer from glue ear as well?

Fogie · 17/02/2012 17:00

Yes to glue ear when younger but was discharged by the audiologists in about year 2 of school (Yr 5 now).

Interestingly, he didn't have any ear infections at this stage. These have been a problem in the last couple of years and he has since had house dust mite and grass pollen allergy diagnosed (as well as anima allergies).

Trying to minimise dust in his bedroom really helps and definitely needs to be done in conjunction with the meds.

My ds is now 12 and is definitely going through a deaf period at the moment, although he is uffering fom a cold. The doctor he used to see has now left. Maybe I 'll wait a while, se a new dctr and ask about allergy testing again. Thanks for our replies.
