Allergic reaction or coincidence?

On Friday night ds2 had pasta with tomatoes he was rubbing his mouth and didn't eat much but he's a bit under the weather so I wasn't concerned about ten mins later he became tearful and hot his face was very red and he was talking like he had a sore throat I took him upstairs to get ready for bed and he was coughing and gagging like he was going to be sick but nothing came up :(
He then went very quiet and dazed and his eyes were drousy looking he kept going a bit floppy dh gave him piriton and calpol and twenty mins later he was fine.

It wasn't until last night when he had tomato chicken and rice which again he refused after a few mouthfuls then was coughing and wheezing and projectile vomited that I became concerned that he's got a serious allergy :(

Ds1 is anaphylactic to many things.

He is slightly unwell this morning so not sure weather it's an allergy or just a bug he has had needed calpol regularly all weekend and had been very clingy.

My dd aged 2 is allergic to tomato chutney and has the same kind of thing. Not allergic to anything else (not even normal tomato). Hope he is ok:) Sorry not more help

It is apparently much more common to react to raw tomatoes than to cooked tomatoes. It is possible to be anaphylactic to tomatoes. (I researched this a bit as my dd2 reacted to raw tomatoes). In your position I would be aiming to get your ds tested asap and I wouldn't give him tomatoes until then. I was told that tomato allergies are often outgrown, so even if your ds does turn out to be allergic, it may only be a short term issue.

Poor you. Sounds very frightening.

Also, kids apparently can react more strongly to allergens when they are unwell, so maybe this was a contributing factor on this occasion.

My DS is only allergic to tomato ketchup. Again can be serious reaction even to a small amount. Tomatoes seem to be wierd allergies that present in different ways.

And yes having a temperature does seem to make atopic children worse.

Hope all goes well at the appointment. Apparently things like ketchup have 10 times the amount of tomato concentrated in a small amount and as it's a food high in histamine that's why certain tomato products can set a child off. My DS actually tested for negative in RAST for tomatoes Hmm. But he does have a high eosinophil count (allergic disease marker that can raise in a reaction) so it's thought highly concentrated foods high in histamine raise this suddenly - hence the reaction.

Fraid there's not much more advice I can give because with DS it's pretty much guess work and speculation. Needless to say we just know what tomato based products he can and can't cope with.

What kind of things can your ds tolerate?
I've got a feeling they will just tell me to avoid tomato and wait till his next hospital appointment in may x

He can have beans, and passata on pasta, bolagnase, pizza. Anything cooked tomato really and where it's a small amount in a another food. He's actually not allergic to tomato (apparently!) He has reacted to BBQ sauce before (BBQ chicken my poor mum cooked).

Its a possibility it's saliatic acid (sp?) which again is highly concentrated in sauces such as ketchup. Its also found in aspirin. It's also in raw fruit/veg but he lives off those and never seems to have a problem except reacting to an apple once Hmm. But that was in April time so I blamed pollen!

Well they are writing to his consultant and requesting an appointment in the meantime I have been told to keep him off all foods containing tomato and if he has another bad reaction then to take him to a&e.

I don't think I am going to even try him with anything.

He was diagnosed with tonsilitis Monday but the gp said its not related.
